It will make a handy place to stay warm when we cannot afford to heat our houses

It's so nice to see the homeless style of livng trickle down to the suburbs. Don't you have a subway to sleep in?

Vixmom, I understand how you feel. My city gave the tax money to car dealers for many many years to get them to move here. Now they are packing up and moving to other cities, who apparently are giving them more.

DR Vixmom, the mall which I work in was planned and vetoed and planned and vetoed on and off for nearly two decades.  It is built in an area of three former mill-towns and two former mining towns, so naturally, one would think that a mall the size of The Pittsburgh Mills would be a boon for this area in tears of employment AND shopping.
But, a funny thing happened on the way to the opening.  Firstly, many things did NOT get built - such as a mini Nascar raceway (the signage and the fence surrounding the track remained in place for quite a while) - many shops found that they could not maintain themselves; a Prmanti's product store was the first victim; restaurants have come and gone and come and gone again.  The owner of the Mills project declared bankruptcy and has been bought out.
There are no real flagship stores in the mall itself - sure there's a Macy's, a Borders and a Dick's Sporting Goods - and the rents (supposedly) are enormously high enough to detract prospective retailers from coming in.
The Mills is suffering because it brought in a load of high-priced stores to a monetarily deprived community; the employment is there, but the shoppers are not.
Had The Mills been built when originally proposed, the economy was better, the surrounding area was less depressed and consumers had a bit more disposal income (though not much).
In the past two months, the Mill's current owner has backed out, bringing in his son from North or South Carolina to try to bring the mall into the black.
A quick walk-through of the mall shows nearly a third of the retail spaces empty and waiting for ANY business to lease the space.
I hope whoever is in charge of YOUR mall from the onset plans it out far better than the mall here north of Pittsburgh was planned.

Sad story, DR VIXMOM......I wonder if any of those people would be interested in the EMPTY malls I drive by on the way to work....where big stores no longer operate, and the small stores change signs every five months or so....becoming something else.

Mostly now it's nail salons, massage parlors, and union halls.

DR jane, re: my comment yesterday about viewing some tv programs online.

I just wasn't sure if it was a viable option for DR Derbrucer. I just wanted to mention that a lot of shows are available to watch online (although i cannot watch any of them from us websites).

re: Last night's DANCING WITH THE STARS elimination.

When i commented yesterday i did not give the spoilers that dialidol had listed. But they were right on with the bottom 2.

I think i mentioned that i thought it might be susan lucci to go home. Dialidol had toni braxton at the very bottom with susan lucci as the 2nd to bottom. And cloris as the 3rd to bottom. I think in a way it was surprising for toni to go, since she was a much better dancer than the other 2. I guess she just a) doesn't have a big enough fan base and b) has not been dancing up to her potential. To me she had great potential. but didn't really shine like she should have.

Interestingly dialidol had my 3 favorite dancers as the top 3 (this never happens). My 3 favs are cody/julianne, brooke/derek, and lancey/lacey.

I just assume that warren/kym will end up in the finals though.

Don't get me started on the way they have screwed up this City.

On a good note, I am off to get my ankle scanned because the last X-rays showed a gap between two of the bones that were pinned together.  Maybe they just shoot some superglue or flubber in there.  It has been a source of frustration and pain the last two or three weeks, so I am quite anxious to get a diagnosis and make some progress.  Wish me luck, please.

Vixmom, move to PDX.  We have one of the most restrictive building codes in the nation--Wal-Mart, for example, has pretty much given up on us (in the metro area at least--they're out in the 'burbs), and Costco and Ikea had to fight like hell to get approved.

Good morning!

Warmer inside and out this morning though still just a bit chilly. I will once again open doors and windows when the temps reach their near-highs today to keep the house moderately pleasant.

DR Jennifer,

You must not have seen the six episode miniseries THE STARTER WIFE which was the jumping off point for this series. It was moderately entertaining, but I decided I wouldn't invest in the show as a weekly series.

With last night's THE MENTALIST, THE SHIELD, and GENERAL HOSPITAL: NIGHT SHIFT on my DVR, I'll have plenty of TV to watch tonight even though the only show I'll record and watch after it starts is CSI: NY.

Today I'm supposed to get the Blu-ray of TINKER BELL for review purposes. However, not depending on Disney to get things mailed on time or to the correct person, I also have ready to watch the first disc in the 10 disc RIALTO PICTURES set from Criterion - TOUCHEZ PAS AU GRISBI.
