The last neighborhood we lived in was nice and used to get about 300 plus trick or treaters (most of them children even).  Every once in a while, I'd recognize a kid who actually lived in the neighborhood, but most of the dear little scamps were trucked in from all over ( old pick-ups holding 10-20 kids).  Some even spoke English.  We gave out decent candy (although I usually stashed away a few of my favorites aside).  Although it was fun for the most part, I was glad when they'd be done for the night.  I will admit that I insisted they actually say, "Trick or Treat" and not just hold out their goodie bags and wait for me to simply give them candy.  Most of them were most polite.

We are still waiting for trick-or-treaters. The Goldsteins passed us by on their way to the block party on another block.  :(

Cilla, regarding the book on the Titanic, TITANIC'S LAST SECRETS, the basis for the book by Brad Matsen is the 2006 History Channel documentary, which I believe was called TITANIC LAST MOMENTS.  I believe the discoveries made by John Chatterton and Richie Kohler are extremely damaging to the owners of both the White Star Line, who owned the ship, and Harland and Woolf, who built it.  I am anxious to read the book.

Coincidentally, Brad Matsen lives just a few miles away from me on Vashon Island, just across Puget Sound.

So far I've had one trick or treater.  I can see hoards of people walking but no one is coming up to the house.

DR Jane - You had mentioned that Mother's Cookies had suddenly shut down earlier this month, but I didn't realize that Archway folded in the process too.

Oldies.com has a great sale going on of books, with 305 of them dealing with movies and television.  There are some bigraphies, autobiographies picutes books, genre books and some good old-fahionened trashy books.  My favorite title so far, JOHN HOLMES: A LIFE MEASURED IN INCHES.

Anyway, some good prices on some of the books.

Hmm... It seems that a certain Broadway show is having their share of "tricks" tonight.  They've had to stop the show twice so far, and they're not even through the first act.  -And it's not BILLY ELLIOT.

Cilla, I did hear that the new Titanic book was due, and I saw it the other day at Costco, but it is a bit out of my budget, so I will put a hold in at Jed's library.

I'll be curious to see what you think of the new theory and the book as a whole. I thought it was very good.

If there is anything new & interesting about my great uncle, by marriage, Captain Smith?

Jane, I am sorry to have to be the one to tell you this, but I am afraid your great uncle, by marriage, is dead.

And here is a book title, on sale for $10.36, that many of our regulars may already own or wish to put on their Christmas list:

I have little Hershey bars and Reeses peanut butter cups. I'm holding back on the Reeses because I want as many of those left over as possible. And I have some very old Smarties for the mouthy kids and the kids who are too old to go trick-or-treating.

I heard about Archway recently-guess I didn't care enough to mention it.  Mother's I care very much about even though I resist the urge to eat them I still like looking at them.

Well, as that article mentioned: Mother's = West Coast, Archway = East Coast.  Ah, well..
