So... I have an extra ticket to DOCTOR ATOMIC tonight at The Met...  -You know the drill.

*And I didn't realize that one of my former students in singing in the new production of LA DAMNATION DE FAUST, so it looks like I'll be back here on Friday possibly. :)

DR elmore - Regardless of your catty response, the only person responsible for last night's election results is Senator, now President-Elect Barack Obama.

I hope you don't get too cold sitting on that Monument of Superiority.

There's lots of company up here.

Yep, and I think we're all along the same mountain range. ;)

*And I only made my initial comment/response in order not to diminish the efforts of BOTH parties over the past two years. We ALL still have to strive to work together despite our differences, and not take a jab at the other side in gloat. There are still Blue AND Red States out there. Work with, not against.

Listen, buster, I waited eight looooonnnng years to gloat, and no mere well-reasoned call for moderation and civility will deter me.  ;)

In other semi-related news, my broker's assistant just emailed me to basically tell me not to look at my October statement.

I received my quarterly e-mail 401(k) statment two weeks ago and it's just sitting in my mailbox. I opened it so that it would fall into the old-mail file cabinet but I have yet to look at it. Since I'm back in the rathole I figure why bother.

My suggestions to President Obama to help our economy:

1.  Sell Alaska to Canada.

2.  Give the 50th state slot to Puerto Rico.

Admit it, wouldn't Puerto Rico be much more happenin' as a state?

But the Puerto Ricans have rejected Statehood, often, at the ballot box!

I am watching a 2002 BBC documentary about Luchino Visconti.  It features a contemporary interview with Helmet Berger.

I don't feel so fat now.

I can't imagine a fat Helmet Berger.  Didn't he get some prince or count to legally adopt him in the mid 70's?

While I'm not in particular a believer in marriage in any form, given the casual treatment it receives from too many heterosexual couples....

Luckily there's folks like Jane and Vixmom and Ginny and me, who picked swell guys and find it a joy to be married for years and years and years.

It was just on the news. He was 66, and it was cancer.

Well, it looks like Prop 8 narrowly passed in California.

It remains to be seen if I will be told that my marriage is invalidated.

I wouldn't doubt that Prob 8 (along with the Florida prop) will be overturned in the courts.  But still a let down that it passed.

What confounds me is that this was a constitutional amendment.  It should require a 2/3 vote to pass, but somehow it doesn't (and doesn't have 2/3, either).

I wondered how it could pass with such a small difference.

And then there are my brothers, each on a third marriage!

3rd for both of them!  At least Randy seems to have gotten it right this time. :)

Good morning, all! I am very happy today about the election results except for the re-election of that idiot Miichele Bachmann

Well you can gain some solace in the fact the Colorado Republican Representative Marilyn Musgrave (Mother of the Federal Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage) was souindly trounced!

Sorry JRand, I didn't laugh at the joke either ;)

DR Ron, I felt you asked nicely enough & kind of understand why you thought it might be racist, if you reach hard enough.  I never saw it that way.  To me your even wondering if the joke was racist  is an example of the extent of racism & prejudice creating problems where it doesn't exist.  I think the same joke could have been made whoever had been elected.

I see that my braces-on-the-brain, homophobic, narrow-mnded, God-fearing Christian niece-by-marriage has posted on her MySpace page how proud she is of her home state Alabama for voting Republican and how disappointed she is in Ohio. I think I need to urge my nephew to divorce her. Or commit her. Or send her painless methods of suicide.

Washington just joined Oregon in offering assisted suicide.  ;)

So are we allowed to discuss politics now?  Saying something like at last this country has come to its collective senses?  :)

Does that mean that representatives of the over 46% of the electorate who disagree can voice their conerns with a potential rush to socialism?

Brrrr...is it a bit chilly in here??

Since you dear people are all so wonderful at giving vibes, I wonder if I might ask some for DH Jed's father.  He went in for a check up the other day and they tested his white blood cell count at dangerously low levels.  Jed went to bring him back in this morning to retake the test, since they thought it might be a lab error.  Turns out it wasn't a lab error at all, and Jed might be driving his dad up to Seattle to the VA hospital to find an available bed.  DFIL (father in law) has had emphysema for a few years now, totally dependent on oxygen, but this is a new thing and we're not sure what it might mean.  Jed has promised to keep me posted.  Any vibes and/or prayers would be much appreciated.

I'd venture to say that this might be indicative that politics should remain persona non grata around here...

Good Afternoon!

Greetings from the new Shake Shack on the Upper West Side... YUM!!

*While walking up here I realized that Magnolia, Shake Shack and Levain are within seven blocks of each other... And if go west a block or two then you could also include Grandaisy, Buttercup Bakeshop, Jacques Torres Chocolate and Grom...  Just sayin'...
