TOD

Wasn't crazy about the film and don't t remember the name of the file exactly "Fields of Heaven"? with Richard Gere. The photography won a oscar for if memory serves for Nestor Alamandros and Haskell Wexler did some work I think uncrecdited.

Good morning, all! I have a trip to Toyland followed by a physical therapy session, and perhaps - if the HMO is still dragging its feet on the therapist's request for a second referral from last Thursday - a stop at my HMO to verbally kick ass.

I'm having a good tme with Loesser score; I'm still amazed at how quickly Don Walker and Red Ginzler scored such a large score and handled the big revisions out of town so quickly. This new computer score is quite beautifully done, and a lot of my criticisms have less to do with wrong notes and copy errors and more to do with the aesthetics of reading the score and how it all looks on paper.

After physical therapy, I think I'll return here, work a bit on a hymn arrangement for a good lady I'm quite fond of, and get back to Act One of THE MOST HAPPY FELLA.

Good morning!

Today promises to be majestic. Highs in the mid 70s and bright blue, cloudless sky. Going to lunch today will be pure pleasure. We may even eat outside!

Once again, unless KUNG FU PANDA arrives today, I'll be working on TROPIC THUNDER, the first in a big stack of review copies all coming out on November 18th. I am going to be one busy bee for the next two weeks.

Picking your favorite movie, cinematography-wise, is not easy.  There are so many beautifully photographed films out there.

However, off the top of my head, I would say:

Color: LAWRENCE OF ARABIA

I like Costco (have one 5 minutes away). But i never buy fresh food there. I find the prices very high. But good for some bulk non-perishables. I think they have great prices on books, although unfortunately they do not have more french books, than english ones.

They can sometimes have amazing scrapbook stuff (at great prices).

And they have really cheap food at their restaurant (and good snacks).

I actually totally think they got rid of the right person last night (susan lucci). My 3 favs are still there (lance/lacey, cody/julianne, brooke/derek). I really think the latter is the best team by far and should win. My next to go would be maurice. I am sure warren will be in the finals (top 3).

Very interesting choices so far.  I would, of course, have to include Jack Cardiff's brilliant Black Narcissus, as others have.  But I'd also include Sundays and Cybele, which is one of the most gorgeous black and white films ever, William Fraker's work on Rosemary's Baby - no, it's not a show-off film, but the color photography is brilliant, as is John Alonzo's on Chinatown.

I would include no modern film on my list because all modern films use way too much CGI to change color and lighting.

And I would be remiss not to include the Von Sternberg/Dietrich films, again some of the most gorgeous black and white photography ever - its like will never be seen again.  I also think Joseph Ruttenberg's photography of It's A Wonderful Life is brilliant.
