I was impressed to see "Victim" listed in DR MBarnum's list.
Of course my favourite actor was the star.

I should also list "Midnight In The Garden of Good & Evil"  with another great actor.  And of course the movie has references to DR Edisaurus' subject material.

It usually takes us a couple of years to catch up with foreigh films here as they have a limited theatrical release and the small market makes the DVDs quite expensive here.

The other night we watched "Volver".   What a wonderful movie.

I guess nobody but DR KERRY was brave enough to check out the song stylings of Janey Fallis.

I'm willin', but can't do so from the work computer.    :(

Are you seriously telling us you cannot plug in some headphones at work and listen to something?

The other good news is they finally booked my hotel.  I don't know it at all and it's on the East side - on 42nd St. between Second and First, which means I'll have to figure out what my jog route is going to be.  It's the Tudor Hotel, and from their website it looks very nice - highspeed Internet, widescreen TV, a nice comfy-looking bed and well-appointed and not tiny rooms.  So, I can breathe easy about THAT.

Jogging is quite easy on the sidewalks in that part of town since it's quasi-residential, and usually not too crowded on the sidewalks.  You could run by the United Nations, and maybe even stop by and see your personal friend, Stephen Sondheim since you'll be in his 'hood....

Not during the jog, I'd hope!  Too much sweat!  Bleh!

LOL Matt.  It was really to incite Ron.  It's just not a style of singing that I enjoy at all! All that emoting!  Laughable.  I still blame Whitney and more so, Mariah, for leading the world down that path.

It's a conflagration!

It really sounds more like the Motown Sound to me, and that is what inspired "Dreamgirls."

I relished it in the 1960s and 1970s and it still resonates for me.

Lunch today was a cup of chicken noodle soup, a green salad with bleu cheese dressing, and, after returning to the office building, a small order of Nachos (left over from Friday's sale and reheated for today).

Yes, Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner were doing that kind of singing long before DREAMGIRLS. The sound is something many of us grew up hearing and it's not laughable to our ears.

I love Motown - there was no warbling and over-emoting~!
But I'm nevertheless happy that some can enjoy the type of American Yodel type singing.

Now, I need to get busy with Captain Kirk and company to see how much I can get done by 9:30. Then I'll start watching my two NBC shows in the remaining 90 minutes of prime time.

Clarification please about "warbling" and "American yodel"?

I hear no yodelling in the film.

And warbling, to me, is a term for singing (which is something most singers today don't, and apparently "can't", do).

I guess I'll have to leave it to DRs Jose and JMK to explain what I was trying to get at here.  Singers who have talent and training can actually sustain the note without the "Trills or warbles" effect.

And it's not that I don't enjoy modern pop music.  I do like singers such as Adele, Duffy and Katie Melua.  And yes Pink!

American "Yodel" and its international equivalents seem hell bent on turning out clones who can be marketed for a quick buck and then disposed of just as easily.  I just don't "Get" it.

And I'm not against talent shows per se!

OK I'm an angry old (nearly 63) person who does not adapt well to the "new".

DR Tomovoz, I am in total agreement with you with regards to the Whitney/Mariah type of singing. Just can't stand it for myself. But it is the popular style. And of course there were lots of people in the 20s and 30s who probably disliked the "new" sound of singers like Rudy Vallee and John Boles and the like. I guess each era is different.

Thankfully we live in a world where we are able to still enjoy the eras that fit us best.

I never watch American Idol, but I am sure there are some good singers on there...but maybe they are the ones that don't win.

I'm not arguing with you, Tom....I was just hoping you'd identify which singers in the movie did the yodelling and/or warbling so I could associate the sound with your terminology.

I have returned from my eight hour day at Borders' Cafe.  Only two more of those to go this week - and it's not even the Seasonal Shopping Season!
Of course next week, I have two short and two long (and extremely early) days when the shopping season actually commences.
