Quote from: bk on November 17, 2008, 12:44:36 PMThe other good news is they finally booked my hotel. I don't know it at all and it's on the East side - on 42nd St. between Second and First, which means I'll have to figure out what my jog route is going to be. It's the Tudor Hotel, and from their website it looks very nice - highspeed Internet, widescreen TV, a nice comfy-looking bed and well-appointed and not tiny rooms. So, I can breathe easy about THAT.Jogging is quite easy on the sidewalks in that part of town since it's quasi-residential, and usually not too crowded on the sidewalks. You could run by the United Nations, and maybe even stop by and see your personal friend, Stephen Sondheim since you'll be in his 'hood....

LOL Matt. It was really to incite Ron. It's just not a style of singing that I enjoy at all! All that emoting! Laughable. I still blame Whitney and more so, Mariah, for leading the world down that path.

I relished it in the 1960s and 1970s and it still resonates for me.

DR Tomovoz, I am in total agreement with you with regards to the Whitney/Mariah type of singing. Just can't stand it for myself. But it is the popular style. And of course there were lots of people in the 20s and 30s who probably disliked the "new" sound of singers like Rudy Vallee and John Boles and the like. I guess each era is different. Thankfully we live in a world where we are able to still enjoy the eras that fit us best.I never watch American Idol, but I am sure there are some good singers on there...but maybe they are the ones that don't win.
I guess I'll have to leave it to DRs Jose and JMK to explain what I was trying to get at here. Singers who have talent and training can actually sustain the note without the "Trills or warbles" effect. And it's not that I don't enjoy modern pop music. I do like singers such as Adele, Duffy and Katie Melua. And yes Pink!American "Yodel" and its international equivalents seem hell bent on turning out clones who can be marketed for a quick buck and then disposed of just as easily. I just don't "Get" it. And I'm not against talent shows per se!OK I'm an angry old (nearly 63) person who does not adapt well to the "new".
Sorry. No way will I ever watch or listen to "Dreamgirls" again.I'm telling you I"m not going to. LOL
