One thing I forgot to mention re South Pacific (probably a lot I forgot, actually) is there is NO cell phone announcement at all - no coy "unwrap your candies now" or "don't take pictures or record the show" - instead there's an insert in the program, and the ushers are constantly asking people to shut off all electronic devices.  The class of this production puts everything else on Broadway to shame.

How involved were the R & H Organization involved with this production. Sounds like they had their hand in everything (good thing)

bk - I didn't care for "My Girl Back Home" either, although, I don't mind it so much when it's placed in the second act during the "Thanksgiving Follies" sequence.  -And my only "real" question about this revival was just how much of the dialog setting up "My Girl Back Home" was original, and whether any of it had to be "reconstructed".

Otherwise, yes, the production is quite lump-in-the-throat worthy. -And I'm glad that Paulo Szot was (still) in tonight too.

The song was in the film version and I am guessing from what you said above it is in the same place in the current revival. I am sure that R & H Organization have earlier version of the show in their archives.

Thankfully they did not include any of the other songs that were cut: Loneliness of Evening (Cinderella TV 1965), Will You Marry Me? (Used in Pipe Dream), or Suddenly Lucky whose music was used for Getting To Know You in The King and I

I kept on thinking that ROAD SHOW is the Schmidt/Jones musical (which is actually called Road Side) and not the Sondheim/Weidman musical

Good Morning!
w
Yesterday the Vixter and I puilled all the boxes out of the crawl space and decorated the tree while watching out DVD of  Into the Woods (which is our tree trimming tradition)

This morning we went to church and we have to leave in an hour or so for her basketball game and in between we must get everything BACK into the crawl space.... LATERS~~~

BK - is it possible that the machine on which you are burning hundreds of caloris with little effort is actually the one that is broken and is over reporting your caloric loss>

It seems to me  (based on the output of the machines I have been using at my gym ) that the machine you  were using to day was probably giving you a truer reading ....

Is it Jim Stenborg? :)

No.  And after all the copying he's done in the past 20 years, he knows enough about page turns.

So, just in case you're not following my Twitter feed... ;)

It appears that my parents' church has two(!) late-seating breaks built into the service.  -Which I find more than mildly amusing since the Sunday service begins at 11:15am.  Not 11:00, but 11:15, so there's already a built-in "we're running late" start time.  ;)

The place my parents took me too for lunch was called "Pho 79". The slogan on their t-shirts:

"It's pho king good."

I second this.  Going off of the treadmills i have used, and I've used many at my gym and they all seem to agree with each other on speed and calorie count, I think your preferred machine might be the flawed one.  The speeds seem more accurate on the one you used to day, and i know the calories burned made more sense.  Treadmills as a rule don't burn calories at a particularly high rate, and to burn almost 1000 calories on a treadmill in such a short amount of time you'd have to be going a breakneck speed.

Also, did you look at the incline setting?  Was it the same on both machines?

I love this SOUTH PACIFIC production and I'm a believer in the reinstatement of "My Girl Back Home" for several reasons:
   1. it's one more reinforcement of the theme of young Americans uprooted and moved to far sections of an unfamiliar world to cope as best they can in an irrational battlefield and once there forced to face their limited knowledge learned in their smalltown upbringing. I think the song is better placed in Act One than Act Two because Cable's smarter in Act Two and knows more about being "carefully taught."
   2. It's a good bonding moment for Nellie and Cable because, with all of the military personnel in and out of that musical, she needs a moment to get closer to him since their stories interlock so completely.

...I guess the thing that's always bothered me about the song is the way the word "Tonkinese" is set.  It makes me giggle.

But I do agree that's it's nice to have a musical bonding moment between Nellie and Lt. Cable.

-Which is why a lot of people - myself included - place a towel over the display panel while they're running.  No two machines are alike, and it's always best to gauge your pace and exhaustion level on how you feel and not what you see.  To burn a 1000 calories in one workout, run session takes a LOT(!) of work and exertion.

*And does the machine really "catch-up" to you?  That sounds little suspect, unless you had selected some sort of program on the machine that increases and decreases your speed at certain intervals.

In any case... I hope you made it to the Public, and I hope you at least like Road Show.

bk - And I'm pretty sure that most hotel fitness room equipment is not regulated or re-calibrated on a regular basis.  If you'd like, I could give you a day pass to NYSC, and you could run on one of the indoor tracks.  Or you could head up to my neck of the woods and run on the 1/4-mile track at River Bank State Park.

I did take Miss Queen of the Dog Park down to see if any of our old friends still met on Sunday mornings at ten.

I'm very happy to report that they were there.  They knew right away that something was very wrong since I didn't have Bear with me and I had to tell them what happened.

We discussed getting that other dog as a pal for Sheena but everyone seems to think she is an only dog type--as long as she gets visits to the dog park.  She likes to play with the other dogs but then she wants to go home and get all of the attention/food/goodies/toys for herself.

I still wonder about leaving her home alone all day while I'm at work but maybe she really doesn't mind it.

I feel bad for that dog but I do think it is for the best in the long run.  Sigh.
