I've never seen "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol."

Just had to share.

My sister just called. Her first chemo treatment was a couple of days ago, and so far she feels good. Thanks for your vibes! They are working!

Great news!!

It was misting rain when I came out of the grocery store, but I got everything to my car without getting too wet. After weeks of NO ONE being at the store on Friday, today it was a madhouse. ARgh! I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Good afternoon.  I have just finished emptying out and vacuuming my car.  This was not as mundane a task as you might think.
My car has always been a source of guilt for me.  I tend to let things pile up, tossed in the backseat with the thought "I'll come get it later" and "later" never seems to come.  As a result I had papers back there from some concerts and conferences I went to in 06, not to mention a collection of mismatches gloves, CD's, jackets and sweatshirts, old make-up, hats, empty water bottles, a pair of nylons (Hey, tell me I'm not the first lady to strip her nylons off once she gets in the car for a long drive home) some baby stuff, and a melange of other various debris.
I brought it ALL into the house, piled it in a pile, and mercilessly began to throw away whatever I didn't absolutely need in the car (like the ice scraper and a gift card to Starbucks)  I now have a large bag of trash to throw away, some CD's to file, a few empty coffee cups already in the dishwasher, some laundry to do, and a perfectly EMPTY car.
I then went through with the vacuum and cleaned up every crumb and pine needle.
Then I used the some vinyl cleaning wipes to clean all the non-cloth surfaces.
My car is unrecognizable as my own.  DH Jed is going to faint when he comes home.

I feel very good about this, as you can tell :)

And my darling son slept through the entire thing in his swing, not waking up for the vacuuming or anything.

Since we're all going out to dinner tonight when Gregg gets back into town, I only had a small salad as a snack for lunch. While I ate it, I watched another NCIS episode from Season 3. A man's head is found in the back of a car, but the man was allegedly cremated some months earlier, so naturally there has to be an investigation. I didn't figure out all of the guilty parties, but I did guess one of the main ones.

I tend to enjoy most versions of Scrooge/Christmas Carol.  I admit, I have a special fondness for the Muppet Christmas Carol, though...I love Michael Caine as Scrooge.

Next, I went back to work and watched SWING VOTE. It's a light political satire. Costner's main character is a real turnoff (kind of a deadbeat dad with this adorable and adoring 11 year old little girl who has to be HIS parent), but there is a wonderful supporting cast: Nathan Lane, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Dennis Hopper, Chip Espin (whom I just love), and the little girl is played by a sensational newcomer Madeline Carroll who absolutely steals the movie.

I listened to the audio commentary. The director is one of those people who punctuates every few words with "you know" which just drove me crazy. I tend to start listening for those and tuning out what else he's actually saying. Fortunately, his co-writer did the commentary with him, and he didn't do that, so it was good when he started talking.

I was going to save the other bonus features for when I got back from dinner tonight, but there were only three of them, the longest one being 13 minutes, so I went ahead and watched them all.

I believe the best ever Scrooge performance also included segments of the Cane Mutiny - and it wasn't a sugar candy cane.  The DVD is available on ebay or at least somewhere in the Pacific North West.

I really like Mr. Magoo as a character, but MR. MAGOO'S CHRISTMAS CAROL was only OK when I saw it. For a couple of my friends, it's their favorite version, so I bought a used copy for a couple of dollars and really was disappointed with it. I expected to really love it, and I didn't.

Have I mentioned how much I HATED Mr Magoo?

A little bit of trivia from imdb - "People" was originally written for MR. MAGOO'S CHRISTMAS CAROL

Trivia for
Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol (1962) (TV)

The composers Bob Merrill and Jule Styne offered a song entitled "People" for the score but the animation had already been completed and it was too late to include it. Instead they added it to the score of a Broadway musical they were writing called "Funny Girl", where it became the first of many hits for the star, Barbra Streisand.

DR Ann, congratulations on a clean car.  Now I must do the same to the junk & Christmas decorations still cluttered around the house.

As with DR Matt - the soundtrack of "Gosford Park" was indeed worth buying.

We recently watched the wonderful Kelly Macdonald (Gosford Park, No Country For Old Men, Finding Neverland) in "The Girl in The Cafe" (which also starred Bill Nighy)

Also worthwhile viewing was the talented Timothy Spall in "Mr Harvey Lights A Candle".

(A DR JMK reference)

My CD/DVD burner died yesterday. I am not happy but it has had a very full life!

The MAGOO cartoons did win two Oscars, so somebody thought a lot of them.

Today has been a day already.  I woke up to find the passenger door window smashed.  The thief took a cell phone charger, an audio cord, a pair of iPhone headphones, 2 broken bluetooth headsets and a case of water.  The thief did NOT take an iPhone and an amplifier.    So, I've spent the morning nailing down a mobile glass repair person (done, will be here soon) and cleaning the garage so I could pull the car in (from the rain) so said repair person can work out of the rain.  Tomorrow, we leave for a quick jaunt to Disneyland, so I'll be happy when all this can be done and in the past.  The upside is that we had to clean the garage to get the car in.  Less work later...

In the meantime, an afternoon of Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero.
