I awoke this morning to read the good news from our European neighbor, Tomovoz, that Vienna is still safe from fire.  Whew!

Greetings Friends.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Temperatures are in the 40s right now and it's spring coat weather.

VixMom, I admit I was one of the poo-poohers about Hurricane Gloria in 1985. There was nothing in Manhattan (except for some rain) and we all know that the entire world revolves around Manhattan  ;) Why would we be worried. It rained. As Lotte Lenya says in Cabaret, "So What?" Well, I stand corrected. I didn't know it was that bad away from our little corner of the world. I'll have to ask Anthony if he has memories of it. I didn't know him then (10 years before we met) and he was living on Long Island with his parents.

We've returned from the antique appraisal event.  We decided at the last minute to take different items:  a piece of Roseville pottery that my parents received as a wedding present and the original Herbert Fall oil painting of the Palmer Mill that hangs in our dining room.  The pottery has "intrinsic value" (aka worthless).  The painting, while having some monetary value, is priceless to us and of great interest to the appraiser for the story behind it and the frame (also probably handmade by the artist).

It was a very interesting day - we learned a lot and laughed a lot.

Ginny, that was what I learned about the items I took to the Antique Roadshow.

I came across this photo of Raquel Welch at age 67.  Now, she has either found the only good plastic surgeon working in all of Hollywood; or this woman lives right and takes care of herself.

And since one hunk a day is never enough, I will settle back down on the couch and watch Jeff Richards in one of his early films, CODE TWO (1953).

Jeff Richards and Robert Horton as police officers! I am there!!!

Robert Horton was an early publicity client.  He was promoting his latest film, THE GREEN SLIME.

Good to hear that RD BCT got through his performance.

Vienna is all of a zither but we have survived the night..  Unfortunately some people have not.  Many many homes have been destroyed.  Fires are still burning our of control - we have some rain here at the moment - thunder and lightning as well!    Fires can create their own mini storm systems and the lightning feeds back into the fires.

Does waltzing Matilda do a Viennese waltz?

Often a Swagman will yodel as he waltzes his Matilda.  This is particularly true if he has caught a heart jumbuck.

Thank you Dear Reader Laura - I know how precious would be that gift!

I wonder if a Phoenix will rise from the ashes here.

I am now watching 1957 western titled WAR DRUMS. It has a wonderul cast including Lex Barker, Joan Taylor (who I adore), Jil Jarmyn and Ben Johnson.

Watching this movie, I now have a new favorite actor...Larry Chance. I must find him.

So, who was waiting by the billabong?  And was it Yvonne Billabong?

Yvonne is now Mrs Cawley.  I don't think she is a sheep stealer.

Of course DP Colin has sheep stealing in his blood.  One of his ancestors was transported to Tasmania for the crime.

At the moment most billabongs int he country would be quite dry.

Thank your for your interest in Austria.

DR Tomovoz, Americans who have ancestors that came over on the Mayflower take great pride in that fact.  Does the same work for Australians who's ancestors were one of the original convicts sent there?
