Valentine's Day greetings!  DH Richard is off to sing with the shape-noters and Rob and Mary Linda are hanging out here before her flight to Denver for an audition.  I'm about to bake Valentine cookies.

Strange, as I march further into muddle age, Steve and Eydie seem more and more hip to me

Have you heard their astoundingly cool version of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun"?

TOD:

"Last Dance" is my favorite ever disco song.

Other favorites: "It's Raining Men," "I Will Survive," "Y-M-C-A," "Stayin' Alive," "On the Radio."

RE: It's Raining Men

It's Raining Men was the very first music video I ever saw. Coming from Canada I had never heard of MTV. I was visiting NYC staying at a guest house and in the common room the tv was on and the video was being played. I asked the host what movie it was and he told me it was a music video and had to explain to me what one was.

I even remember the date

May 12, 1983.

I was coming to NY on a trip (driving in a car) and I was planning to see Dance a Little Closer. On the radio as I was approaching Manhatten I heard on the radio that the show had closed the night before. So that's how I remember the date of my first musical video ever

I'm listening to a Gracie Fields collection right now as I contemplate riding the exercise bike.

I'm up and it's too early, but in about forty-five minutes I'll be doing the long jog because the sun is out.

For you Twitterers--the Oregonian reports on its front page this morning that bunch of people who took Mad Men character names are actually Portlanders, and it turns out "Peggy Olson" is a very great sounding jazz vocalist I know.

That show was referred to as "Close a Little Faster". I didn't see it but I do think there are some wonderful songs in the score (listen to Jason Graae's album to hear one).

Today is Oregon's 150th birthday.

I bought 3 sheets of the commemorative stamps and sent one to my mother in her Valentine.

Today is Oregon's 150th birthday.

And

Weekend Edition Saturday

has done a story on that very fact. There is an audio clip of Stan Freberg singing "Oregon, Oregon". The full audio is not up yet. It should be up around Noon Eastern Time but the Freberg clip is available

There's also a great OCR on that other Bruce's label.

I was going to take the Goldstein sisters out for the morning, but their mother is over there banging on the door with a suitcase.

Well, she is banging on the door, and she has a suitcase with her. Not that she is using the suitcase to bang on the door.

I've performed a couple of songs from DANCE A LITTLE CLOSER in various revues I've been a part of. The show must have been awful, but the score is very nice.

Three disco or semi-disco songs that I bet no one other than Tomovoz might know, though 2 of them did chart:

I'll Tell You
Lonely Woman
The Real Thing

All three recorded by Sergio, of course, the last one written by and featuring Stevie Wonder (it's the least discofied of the three, but got a lot of dance airplay.  The first two were off of Sergio's one "real" disco album, a pretty lamentable affair that nonetheless featured incredible horn charts by Tower of Power).

So, DR Michael, what show did you go to since DANCE A LITTLE CLOSER wasn't an option?

There's also a great OCR on that other Bruce's label.

The original release on the short lived IBR (?) was mastered incorrectly. In sounded as if it was recorded in an echo chamber.

They also release another version of The Secret Garden and Sugar Babies.

They were release on LP, CD & Cassette. Each version was different. (The cassette version having the most music)

I believe when BL re-released them on cd Secret Garden had all the music that was featured on the CD and Sugar Babies had everything with one the exception of one cut: Ronn Lucas did a musica/comedy #.

Sugar Babies couldn't be called a true Original Cast album even though it was recorded during the run. It featured songs that were cut before the show opened, songs cut during the run, songs added during the run. Featured performers who were replacement cast members and others who appeared on the Sugar Babies tour.

My favorite disco song is On The Radio.  And I like the Village People's songs.

Dance A Little Closer has some lovely numbers and some bad numbers and poor Len Cariou's voice was, unfortunately, fairly trashed by that point.
