Josh's recital was fun, but aggravating: he changed spaces in Manhattan School of Music and didn't notify folks, so when you got to the assigned auditorium on the invitation, you had to go back to the main desk and hope they knew where the recital actually was happening. After the ordeal of finding the original auditorium and finding the recital was elsewhere, I was not happy. The actual recital, to which I was late, was a lot of fun.
I would have liked DIE FLEDERMAUS more with less prancy choreography in the numbers and lyrics in English. It's silly in the Act One Finale to have Frank the jailer say to Alfred "Come with me, please" and have the tenor sing back to him "trink mit mir." Oy! And if I were Rosalinda, I'd ask the director, what do you want, me singing this wonderful czardas very well, or the four dancers prancing behind me while I'm working my ass off?"
The cast was very good and the orchestra played beautifully. The wonderful "Bruderlein Schwesterlein" sequence of the Act Two Finale was glorious and moving.
