Haven't been to the Cottage in many a year.  Is it very close to the Vineyard Theater?  I seem to recall eating there before seeing something at the Vineyard.

It's around the corner from the Vineyard. Cottage is on 16th and Irving and Vineyard is on 15th and Irving (almost across the street from what was the Century Playhouse and is now a broadcast studio for one of the Christian television networks).

I wonder if Irving Place was named for Henry Irving, the great actor and friend of Ellen Terry? I doubt it.

Known for the great song:  Nothing's more unnerving than to wake up next to Irving in the morning

(almost a Danny Thomas "Make room for Daddy" reference)

I think you're right! Washington Irving High School is right there spanning 16th and 17th Streets.

They used exterior shots of WIHS for Head of the Class, the sitcom from 1986 with Howard Hesseman

I'm up.  Still deciding about swapping out the LED TV for the LCD model - I'm going back to Fry's to discuss.  There are a couple of things that are bugging me (one is a red light that sits below the TV screen, one is what they call a "flashlight" effect, although the latter is only visible at night in a dark room when the screen is pitch black - instead of being pitch black, the four corners have something that looks like little flashlight beams - not a deal breaker, the latter, but the former is a little distracting and the LCD doesn't have it).  The image continues to impress, especially 2001, which has a stunningly beautiful transfer and hi-def image - maybe the best I've seen along with Zulu and South Pacific.

Interesting, this non-love for Steve McQueen, who has always been a favorite.  For me, it's The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, Love With The Proper Stranger, The Sand Pebbles, Soldier In The Rain, and Bullitt.

The first question that must be addressed this day is the long jog.  I shall address it now:

I don't think that I have ever seen a Steve McQueen film.

Wow!  That was fun.  I finally got to see myself on national television.  At about 10:02, my friend Betzy called me screaming that our episode of HIGH SCHOOL STORIES was being shown on MTV.  I flipped it on in time to see most of the episode, but I missed the first couple of minutes.  I wish I knew someone in Hawaii I could call and ask them to tape it in about two hours!

Back from a short jog - too hot and a little smoggy today - so I just did two miles, and that seemed fine.

Thanks for all the Travel Vibes.

The trip from Manila to Nagoya, and then from Nagoya to Detroit was nice and uneventful. Thankfully, the "snorer" who sat next to me from MNL to NGO was "replaced" from NGO to DTW by a non-snoring medical student who is about to start his residency at a hospital in Flint, Michigan.

I believe I got some pretty decent sleep on the plane, and as long as I don't nap until we get back to Richmond tonight, my jet lag should be minimal. I hope.

DR SWW - I can't remember the exact cookbook, but it was one of the first ones I started consulting when I got on my first baking kick years ago... The preface did note that baking is an exact science, but only to a certain point. Once you throw things in such as humidity, freshness of ingredients, milling of the flour, the type of sugar, the weather(!), etc., adjustments can and should be made. I was never afraid to bake a cake. *Decorating one, however, is a totally different matter. ;)

*And I really liked Ruhlman's recent charity promotion for SOS that he ran via his blog and Twitter account.
