JMK - Please don't refrain from posting what's on your mind just because it's blather.

That came out wrong.  I really love reading your blather.

No, that's not what I meant to say either.  Well, whatever you're posting, I'd miss it if it weren't there.

Well, must get out and do some yard work before it gets too hot...then to finish last nights Kollywood movie (it is quite a unique filim, and quite good).

Here is one of the musical numbers, for those curious about that sort of thing.

Last night, when I packed up the Loesser for the night, I watched the season finale for THE TUDORS. Much as I like a lot of this series, and much as I was happy to hear it wll continue next season, I think very much that it's time the idiot producers stop trying to recreate softcore Cinemax At Night and start ageing the characters.

At some point Henry has to gain the avoirdupois which began with his leg keeping him from being so athletic. I really doubt the latest wife-to-be and he were cavorting so much in the nude for two reasons: he was becoming a fat pig and she was a teen-age idiot with a large libido who was too busy playing around with boys her own age, much as the men around her were setting her up to be queen.

And, I wonder, why is Ane of Cleves so pretty? Supposedly the Holbein made her look better than she was, so she must have been a dog who smelled really badly because Henry reported she smelled terrible and was so awful he couldn't consummate the marriage. We're talking about a historic period where no one washed for years! I doubt the word hygiene, the lack of which is why so may died in childbirth, was even a real word at that time. If Anne of Cleves stank and looked bad, you'd never know it from the series.

My criticisms of this season mirror yours preceisely, DR Elmore. Very entertaining but now it seems a few facts are about all that's accurate about the depiction of the latter part of the king's reign.

I guess I'll head down now and get laundry ready for washing. Then I'll head to the kitchen to think about what's for lunch.

Moving on...

I, thankfully, had a "reprieve" this morning when my friend, Jerry, called me this morning at 8:30 to inform me that his kid woke up running a fever.  In other words, brunch cancelled.  Which is OK.  And I got to grab an extra hour or two of some much needed sleep.  :)

And now I think I'm going to head out for brunch on my own... Although, I think I may just stay put here for a bit longer since I think I may head out to Queens this afternoon for the Marriage Equality New York rally... We shall see...

*Oh, I did buy some fresh yogurt at the farmer's market yesterday, and I believe I shall have some of that.  Now. :)

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood (here in Chelsea). We will head out later to walk around and take in the sights of young men with tank tops or no shirts and also to just enjoy the beautiful weather.

A DVD we burned a while ago is wonky so we were not able to watch a film called Midnight with Don Ameche and Claudette Colbert (John Barrymore has 3rd billing and his 3rd wife Elaine has a very, very small part but got 6th billing because she was married to Barrymore). Anthony will take it out of his library on Long Island and we will watch it that way thought it may not be for a while because we don't have any plans for Long Island until the July 4th Weekend.

I need to start riding the exercise bike again. I've been procrastinating and while it may not show, I feel it.

Damn! I need to buy a new CD player. Mine is a 5-disc player but only certain ones of the 5 trays currently read CDs. I hate it.

So why am I here, posting this blather?

Something I'm sure many of you ask daily when you see me posting.

I'm virtually certain we have all managed to keep it to ourselves.

They wish they had a property that size.  No, they're building on a tiny lot, which means they have to build sideways or they're going to have a very thin front.  Don't know about the long jog today - it's chilly out and even a little drizzly.  Of course, I hope the rain waits just one more day if it's coming, as no one is working today next door.

And now, to ruin Pogue's day:

LATIMES

Quote
The new Sherlock Holmes -- action hero? Comic bumbler?

Two new films based on the detective are in the works. One pairs Robert Downey Jr. with Jude Law as Watson, the other pairs Sacha Baron and Will Ferrell.

By Scott Timberg
May 31, 2009

He's probably the most adapted literary character in history -- and perhaps the only nonexistent person with an honorary degree from the Royal Society of Chemistry. Upward of 70 actors have portrayed him in more than 200 films, since the early days of silent movies.

But there's not been a major cinematic adaptation of Sherlock Holmes in decades. The classic films of the '30s and '40s, starring Basil Rathbone as Arthur Conan Doyle's immortal detective, shut down the production of Holmes films for years, and the Jeremy Brett-starring series on Britain's Granada Television, broadcast in the '80s and early '90s, has likely intimidated would-be filmmakers as well.

But heading our way are two very different films starring the Victorian detective.

The first, "Sherlock Holmes," stars Robert Downey Jr. as sleuth with Jude Law as sidekick John Watson. Though these are two respected actors, the Warner Bros. film will not be a thesp-fest but an action movie based on a graphic novel by Hollywood executive Lionel Wigram, who spent years trying to get the project taken seriously.

The film has finished shooting -- with most of the exteriors in London, Manchester and Liverpool -- and is scheduled to open Christmas Day. "I didn't want deerstalkers and pipes," Guy Ritchie, the film's director, said of the sleuth's famous hat and favorite hobby. "They're typical iconic images of Holmes, but we're starting from scratch."

The second, still untitled and in preproduction, will go for a comic tone, with "Borat" star Sacha Baron Cohen as detective and Will Ferrell as associate. (Etan Cohen, who co-wrote "Tropic Thunder," will write the screenplay, with lad-film demigod Judd Apatow as executive producer.)
...

Holmes without his hat and pipe - that's like Mary Poppins without an umbrella!
