Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a little bit country and a little bit rock-and-roll, and now it is time for you to post until the country cows come home - they're currently listening to Dolly Parton and Bo Diddley.

Fun notes today, bk!    :D

And I'm quite astonished to learn that Bruce Villanch wrote for Donny & Marie!

I believe at some point John Williams stopped writing the Potter scores, but that subsequent composers had permision to quote his original main theme in a limited fashion.  I don't know much about film music, so take that with a grain of salt.

Williams at least wrote films one and three.  Two was adapted by William Ross from the Williams' themes.

Last Christmas, I gave the DP a DVD set of assorted Donny and Marie episodes.  I was more excited than he was, but we still haven't opened it yet.  I'll have to check it out, maybe one of bk's 4 episodes is included.

Yes, David Pogue (who, even though I'm married, I find adorkably attractive) is the MD from Flora. He speaks often about his early life as a pit musician and MD on and off Broadway.

Ginny's son met him (IIRC) and DP was extremely nice to him. I love his columns and his writing because he's intelligent, fair minded and funny and doesn't talk down to people.

My first question for ASK BK day.....since I enjoyed the notes so much.

When you are a guest star on a program such as DONNY AND MARIE....is there a formal introduction session.....such as Mr Lynde...Bruce Kimmel, Bruce Kimmel....Mr Paul Lynde....  Or does everyone just jump in and start working together.

How were you introduced to Mr Lynde and what were some of his comments during the production that you found amusing?

Wednesday morning greetings!

Yes, you're right, DR Ben.  Nine years ago, I took Richard and Rob with me to the ALA conference in Chicago.  They had a great time in the exhibit hall and Rob met David Pogue at the O'Reilly booth.  DP was very nice to all of us and talked some about his growing up in Cleveland.

Ginny, I (and Anthony) would much rather have lunch with you and Richard but it looks like it will have to be on your next trip. Both presentations (which will go smoothly at least on my part) will take up much time on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Maybe I'll see you for the millisecond that you're at the FC.

I am not surprised that Donny Osmond is a swell guy in real life. Even at age 12 I knew it.   ;)

We fully understand, DR Ben.  I may even be able to avoid the trip to the FC, if Cindy in Cleveland can help me out via email.  Hope the presentations go well and you and Anthony have a great holiday weekend on the Isle of Long.

Good morning, all!

BK, I don't recall any of those Donny and Marie stories since I came on board in 2004.

Today, I am working on Jerome Moross' BALLET BALLADS, and tonight I'm having dinner with my friend Daniel Neer, who will tell me all about his experiences with a workshop of a new opera.

I have absolutely no other news.

Glad my posting of the show sparked such memories.  I have two episodes of the show with you that I got on ebay lo these many moons ago.

You and Cindy had such a great chemistry, have you ever considered doing an act together?

I would imagine Donny and Marie needed good material no matter who wrote it.

Oh, agreed.  It just seemed like such an unexpected match of writer to performer.

Good morning!

Another day, another set of temperatures in the 90s with hot, muggy conditions. The South is not a very pleasant place to be in the summer. That's why now that I'm "retired," it's my least favorite season of the year. (Of course, when I was teaching, it was my favorite season of the year.)

Last night, DR JRand asked:

"Thanks DR MATTH I will try that.....so it will give me better sound than using the R/W in their regular spots?"

Oh, yes. It will give you the entire 5.1 surround sound if the discs have that encode. With just the W/R connections, you'd be getting a downmixed stereo audio stream decidedly inferior to what the disc might offer.

I will be working hard to finish up BURN NOTICE today. Since there are six episodes left plus a commentary and deleted scenes and a gag reel (that I know about), I doubt I'll get it all done this afternoon. I'll have to carry the last few shows into this evening. However, once it's done, I should have some free time to watch a movie.

Right now I'm thinking it will be the Blu-ray of ESCAPE FROM THE PLANET OF THE APES (since I'd love to finish up with that set and get it placed on the shelf.

However, bk's working through the HARRY POTTER series makes me long to revisit some of them myself, and then I still have a stack of other catalog Blu-rays that need some attention, too.
