Ask BK Day:

How was Marc Kudisch to work with (BELLS ARE RINGING revival recording)? Do you have any memorable stories about working on that project?

DR MattH, as much as I like The Young & The Restless, it is just average right now. I know you were interested in the new gay storyline. But i don't think that will be coming up for a while (my guess is with either nina's son phillip or her non-dead husband phillip).

The actor who plays adam is changing this week (which sucks to me), but the story that involves him and a gay kiss is most likely only a heterosexual gay trying to prey on his gay lawyer. Not sure if that interests you.

My first question for ASK BK day.....since I enjoyed the notes so much.

When you are a guest star on a program such as DONNY AND MARIE....is there a formal introduction session.....such as Mr Lynde...Bruce Kimmel, Bruce Kimmel....Mr Paul Lynde....  Or does everyone just jump in and start working together.

How were you introduced to Mr Lynde and what were some of his comments during the production that you found amusing?

On Variety shows, at least the ones I worked on, you just showed up and rehearsed.  I think I met Paul Lynde on the set - not much interaction, but I remember there was one sort of unfunny bit of dialogue in something we were doing and he turned to me and in classic Lynde voice said, "Jokes to come."  I also saw him in the parking lot while leaving one day, and he was very sweet and complimentary.

Guest shots on filmed shows, the same - you just show up and jump right in.  You're usually introduced to everyone, though, usually by the AD.  On three-camera audience shows, there's usually a table reading, so that's where you meet everyone.

Marc was fine - that whole album was easy/breezy and fun.  He was very professional and took notes about studio performance.  The only things I remember about the session are the headphone story I told the other day, plus the producers not having hammered out their deal with Don Sebeskey, so there was that drama at the beginning of the session - I smoothed it out, as I recall, and we proceeded.  They actually weren't going to let Don into the booth at all, but it all worked out in about ten minutes.  Faith Prince is always fun to work with - it was my third cast album with her.  And I really liked all the supporting people and knew several of them from other projects.

But the most fun was having Betty and Adolph there for a while.  I had nice chats with them throughout the session.

Thanks. Your mentioning BELLS ARE RINGING the other day reminded me that you indeed had been the producer. I remember when I first heard it being astonished to hear the songs sung by the very talented Faith Prince. I love Judy Holliday, but she was not an accomplished vocalist. Faith really brought out a lot more melody in those songs which was a nice counterpoint to Judy Holliday's interpretations of the songs.

Now I must head downstairs, check the mail, and then get started on cooking some lunch. I'd also like to squeeze in both NURSE JACKIE and BETTER OFF TED before I get back to work with BURN NOTICE.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And Soan and his father are upstairs getting Soan's room together - a.k.a. assembling a couple of pieces from IKEA - and Sammy, our handyman, is prepping the other room for a fresh coat of paint.

And the sun has come out.

Who could ask for anything more? ;)

Thanks DR MATTH - I will switch the cables tonight or tomorrow and file a complete report.

Add me as another great fan of the Faith Prince BELLS ARE RINGING cd - one of my favorites, and I keep dragging it out and loaning it to members of the Program Committee....that one and SHE LOVES ME.....maybe in 2011......since 2010 is already set.

I'm awake!  Waiting for the ADT people to come install the security system, and hopefully they won't be long as I'm heading into SF to see a matinee of Spamalot and I would really NOT like to miss it.  The DP scheduled the installation without consulting my calendar (which he insists I update regularly and never seems to use it) but I'm not bitter.   No no no no....

On the celebrity search front, we've tracked down David Garrison, Teresa Stratas, and Frederica von Stada this morning. Roberta Peters is the only singer to work with John McGlinn we cannot locate.

For Ask BK Day...

Which recording sessions of which classic - or non-classic - musical would you have liked to sit in on?
