I'll be playing auditions for a theatre company in Lancaster.  I've worked for them before whenever they've come into The City, and they're in the process of having their "on campus" auditions, and had asked if I would be interested in coming out to Lancaster for the day to play for them.  Sure. Why not?  So, a-Lancaster-ing I shall go.  -And then a Philly-ing I shall go too later on.

In all honesty Sherlock Holmes bores the p outta me. I have never sat through a single episode of any Holmes, done by anyone from Basil Rathbone through Jeremy Brett or anyone in between. Sorry.

Murder By Decree Christopher Plummer as Holmes

The Hounds of the Baskerville Peter Cushing as Holmes

The 7% Solution Nicole Williamson as Holmes

HATE
Now I have not seen DR Pogue version of the story (with Ian Richardson) but these are two of the worst films I've seen

The Hounds of the Baskerville TV version with William Shatner in some role. Bernard Fox did make a good Watson

The Hounds of the Bakerville Peter Cook as Holmes. Although I later read that the film was re-edited for the NA release. With scenes dropped and others rearrange. The film made no sense and wasn't funny



Young Sherlock Holmes Too Indiana Jones like and situations for a Young Holmes let alone an old Holmes made the story unbelievable.

The Hounds of the Baskervilles seems to be the story that has been retold the most times. There is over 20 and the majority of them are in languages other than English.

Good Morning, once again!

Well, I made it down to Penn Station about ten minutes before my train was scheduled to leave. I would have liked to have gotten there a little earlier, but it just took me a little while longer to get ready this morning than I thought it would. -I think this was the first time since getting back from the Phillipines that I had to be up before 8:00am. But I made it.

And right now, I'm somewhere in New Jersey. Thankfully, the train is not all crowded this morning. However, there's no Quiet Car nor a Cafe Car on this train.  At least I packed some granola bars in my bag. -Oh, I never did get a chance to make breakfast before I left the apartment this morning.

bk - Was this a special screening of "Harry Potter" that you went to? Or did you just want to see it at Grauman's?

*And it was probably a good thing that the theater wasn't crowded. Less people to annoy you. ;)

As the author of BASIL RATHBONE: His Life and His Films, I can attest that there is only one real Sherlock Holmes, and that was Basil.

The best of those 14 pictures he did: THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES and THE SCARLET CLAW.

I totally agree with you about the sorry state of movie theaters.  I very seldom go to a theater any more.  Haven't been to one yet this year.  [One thing you didn't mention is that admission prices are outrageous...even for seniors like us.]

I don't mind waiting 2-3 months for any film I want to see to come out on DVD.  That way, I can watch it when I want on my 52" flat screen w/surround sound.  No distractions.

My favorite Sherlock Holmes adventure story and screen is also The Hound of the Baskervilles, and I like almost all the film versions.

I purchased the one written by DR CP, and it is most excellent.
