TOD:

I know for sure it's "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.

Why are you so clear on this one?

It's just awful how bad 2009 has been for some of our Kimlets.

I keep crossing my fingers, toes and eyes that it's not contagious.

Well tomorrow I have an appointment to see a vascular surgeon and tuesday I have an appointment with an orthopedist. I hope between the two of them a solution will be found for my constant pain. I see how people can get hooked on pain killers if they have to live with this day in and day out. I am not taking anything for the pain but just resting which seems to alleviate the discomfort.

I was never really a rock and roller. The only rock band that I liked enough to buy one of their albums was Chicago. I think it was because of what I perceived as jazz influence in their music

I have a new roof across the back of my house! The roofers were done right around 2:10, so I am thrilled beyond belief to have one part of my home renovation completed. I'll have to wait until next month to do anything else. Not a dime to my name for the rest of this month, I'm afraid. (Well, thankfully, some stock dividends pay out this month, and that's my spending money).

They did a wonderful job, and were really hard workers. They didn't even stop for lunch. Worked right through from 9:20 until 2.

Congrats, Matt!  May you have many trouble-free years!

So how many of Dan Brown's new book did you sell, DR td??

To quote a fellow Borders employee (albeit one at the Park Avenue, NYC, store):
Quote
You have been knocked unconscious by Dan Brown. You are bleeding to death! You are bleeding to death! You have been slain by An Extremely Condescending, Angry Black Woman Who Blames Her Troubles Entirely On Your Incompetence At Locating A Book That H...asn't Even Arrived Yet. LOADING. PLEASE WAIT...

I sold precisely ONE before normal business hours.
Probably between 75 to 100 through the rest of the day.

I did however create the sales pyramid display for Dan Brown's tomes as well as an end cap.

DR Vixter, having a crush on someone one considers a good/best friend is always fraught with difficulty, not knowing if the best friend also feels the same way or not. Maybe someone within the group can find out how girl # 2 feels about girl # 1.

As for her father not knowing, that is a difficult one. Having to keep your girlfriend secret would not be fun...although that is certainly not rare. Perhaps she should discuss it with her mother (I am presuming from your post that her mom knows of her orientation).

It is fantastic that both gals have straight friends who are supportive of them. That is something that most of us here did not have when we were of high school age. Many of us had to pretend to be someone we weren't.

If she still can't decide what to do, then just have her watch an old Sandra Dee movie and cry. No doubt that is what a lot of us here did when face with  seemingly impossible crushes.

It was playing on the car radio in the parking lot of my pediatrician's office.  We were going there for my early allergy testing.

DR Vixter, I have a very good memory of what it was like in high school & the confusing mix of relationships between guy & gal friends.  This adds a new, more difficult, dimension to the usual situation.  OK, from experience….You can stay best friends with someone you really like, even though it hurts at times, not date and stay friends forever & be glad you never dated.  You can date your close friend, not have it work, and still stay friends.  It might not be the same friendship after so it is a risk.  Last & best scenario (Keith’s & mine), you begin dating your best friend when you are both 17 and it lasts forever.  Not easy to do at all & the statistics are against you.

You seem to know the secret the best friend didn’t share.  I find that odd she hasn’t & does the one friend know she has been kept out of an important secret?  Not knowing the secret I have no idea how that info might tip the scale. Secrets are not a good beginning for a relationship & they both seem to have one.

My advice is both these girls need to be older & really figure out who they are.   If the one friend is as close to her mother as you say, what did her mother suggest?

While you have a cold?

I know, I know...   But the cold seems to have left almost completely - as quickly as it came on in the first place.  And I didn't want to wait too long in case supplies run out.

Hmmm, I wonder if it was allergies.  There is a lot of that going around.

I don't think I know who Dan Brown is.

I don't think he knows you, either, DR MBarnum.  ;)

He wrote one of the most popular, and highest selling novels of all time:  THE DA VINCI CODE.
It's been six years since he published that novel, so the expectations for his new novel THE LOST SYMBOL are quite high (at least sales-wise).

Back from a lame casting session.  It was mainly to hear one actor again.  I was asked to give him some direction before he came in, even though I knew he wasn't right for the role (I'm a friend and fan of the actor in question).  So, I told him not to be bombastic or loud.  He came in and was - wait for it - bombastic and loud.  Really interesting.  I toned him down and he was better but still not right for the role.

Greetings from Union Square West where...

-You could pick up a sweet treat from Doug and Brian at The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. -The elderflower syrup is quite deelish.

-You can preview "The New Ann" in a pop-up shop on the Square. -Which is manned by some attractive women and men. ;)

-And/or you could grab a spot on the sidewalk and list to Chloé Temtchine perform songs from her debut CD. Out of the back of a truck. "Where in the Truck is Chloé?" www.chloeqt.com

-Or you could just grab a chair in Starbucks (like I currently am doing), or a bench in the park and continue to take in this beautiful late Summer/early Fall evening.

Larry, there's good news and bad not-great news...the good news is that I was able to record yesterday's Guiding Light episode early this morning, make a DVD and it's ready to send to you today.  The bad not-great news is that I didn't think about it and recorded the hi-def channel.  All this means is that because it's burned onto a regular DVD, the picture has a black frame around the whole image.  It's otherwise all there, just a slightly smaller image.  Here's a screen-shot of what it (proportionately) looks like:

But I got it. :)

DR George, bless you! I think that's fine. Can I send you DR dakotacelt's address? You can send it to her, if you don't mind.

I was having my meeting with the FINIAN'S RAINBOW copyist when George called. He says tomorow. Fine with me.

Ron Raines' character died today on THE GUIDING LIGHT. It was a very moving episode. I had known it was coming from something his wife mentioned on Sunday, but it was still sad. Even knowing that Ron isn't the character, I still find it difficult watchng friends die in roles.

When you posted yesterday that today was his last episode, I set my DVR to record it for myself...just to see it.  I'll watch it tonight.
