Then I tuned into tonight's GHOST WHISPERER. The ghost story didn't make me very emotional as the show often does, but the relationship between Melinda and her now five year old son promises to be pretty interesting.

And it was such a pleasure to see MEDIUM back on the air. Glad to see they got the cliffhanger out of the way by the end of the episode. The case Allison was working was reasonably entertaining but not as complex as some of her cases have been.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Joe in the job market.

One of the best jokes in Elmore's great K-Tel tone row commercial got a neat going over last night on XM's classical channel.  All those open fifths in Berg's Violin Concerto are evidently signs of his reluctance to even write the damned thing after Gropius and Alma Mahler's daughter died of leukemia.  Who knew?

My eyes are feeling really heavy, so I need to head downstairs and go to bed.

Good night!

DR Jose, I'll learn more next week about the dress rehearsal. I'd be honored if you would be my date for the evening.

Aw, Thank You, DR elmore. <blush>

Well, there's no real joke to explain.  However, I will say that the Berg dedicated his violin concerto "to the memory of an angel".  -That "angel" being his daughter, Manon, who died at the age of 18.

The track listing for Carol Channing's forthcoming new CD looks a bit bizarre to me:  mostly spirituals and inspirational-type numbers.      ???

Songs like "Hail, O Mary!" and "Demons Are Not A Girl's Best Friends" ? :D

And one of the titans of the keyboard - well, she was sort of a "tiny titan" - died today...

R.I.P. Alicia de Larrocha

Her recordings of the Spanish piano literature by Albeniz, Granados, Mompou, Turina and others are true touchstones for all pianists, myself included.  There is a wonderful quote about her from the concert manager, Herbert Breslin:

"“There are two kinds of repertory Alicia plays. Things she plays extremely well, and things she plays better than anyone else."

Thank You, Señora de Larrocha!

It's available from soundofmusic-shop.de for only 39.99 Euros (which is $58.7494 USD right now).

It's a 3 CD set which used to be 10 euros more before!!

Then I watched FAST FORWARD which I REALLY enjoyed. Looks to be a fascinating puzzle for them to put together, but it certainly appeared as if they're giving themselves an end date - April 28, 2010. Maybe they plan to reset the puzzle at the end of the season or have the puzzle go off into some other direction.

I was wondering about that too.  -And I'm guessing they've filmed the whole season already - or at least a good chunk of it. -Do you know if a full season was ordered up front?

-And just what is the final date of the final episode of "Lost"? ;)

Um, the hotel I'm looking at is getting not-so-good (actually scathing) reviews on the 'net  :P

DR Ginny - That neighborhood is fine.  Lots of good places to eat over on Amsterdam and Columbus, and some new buildings too have spruced up the neighborhood. And just a few blocks from the 86th Street and 96th Street (express) subway stations. -However, I have heard some not-so-good things about that hotel.  So...

I'm not sure what the current rates are, but I've had a couple of friends rave about On The Ave. down at 77th and Broadway. It's one of the nicer boutique hotels.

Oh... And check QuikBook.com for hotel deals.

This is my favorite cat video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdvLEiWzEvQ

It is the weaving back and forth of the camera, it makes me ill.  And that cat takes forever to creep up for the attack.

It looks like an "attack" but it's not!

The cat's more intrigued than anything else; it wonders what the human's doing actually!   ;D:D:D

I don't know what's going on with the iPhone but it has to stop or I'll just get a new one.  Dear reader Jose intimated without really providing any links that this all may be an issue that has to do with the last update, but I've seen nothing about that anywhere, and the iPhone tech person hasn't acknowledged any issue like that.  Sometimes when I plug the iPhone into the computer it does its synch but then tells me that if it syncs my contacts it will change over 5% of them and do I want to continue - since I've never had that screen I simply clicked yes, sync.  It did so and nuked my entire address book off the computer and the phone.  Not good.  I could not get them back on the phone or computer by doing a restore to the last backup (which actually should have been today but wasn't - it was last week) - we did that and it didn't work.  Luckily, I was able to plug into the laptop and get it from there - so it's back on the phone but not on the desktop phone book.  Furthermore, doing a Mobile Me sync brings up that same window saying it will change over 5% so I can't do a proper mobile me sync and therefore can't get the address book from the phone to the computer.  So, the tech has been talking me through a few things, to no avail.  He had me restart, and then replug the phone into the computer - this time it wouldn't even connect - we got some error message that makes no sense to anyone - he's trying to get someone in a different department to figure it out - it says: USB Over Current Notice, a USB device is currently drawing too much power.  The hub to which it is attached to will be deactivated.  And then you can click OK, but it still doesn't connect the phone to the computer.  First of all, there's no USB device that's drawing too much power - the only USB cord in the computer is the Apple mouse.  Other than that, I have my Time Machine/router and my modem.  I use less that 10% of the hard drive space on this computer.  And the tech has no idea what it means.  Maddening.  And I'm running out of time to deal with it because I have to shower and be on my way to the Music Center in thirty minutes.

bk - Of course, now that I want to link to those articles, I can't track them down, but...

I'm going to forward your "issues" to my personal Mac Genius and see what he says - and what help he may be able to offer you.

I also liked this bit from the ArtsBeat blog:

"One last thing: it must be time to start holding gatherings for British actors in Hollywood, where they can all speak in their real accents. It would be like the old Iowa picnics – 50,000 of them might show up. Four of the nine credited regulars in the “FlashForward” pilot, including the central couple – Mr. Fiennes, Ms. Walger, Jack Davenport and Brian F. O’Byrne – are British or Irish. Add to that Alex Kingston in a supporting role and Dominic Monaghan, who joins the cast next week, and it’s a clear case of cultural imperialism."
