24 years ago, I wrote a 15-minute piece, "Appalachian Carols," for my dad, who was born in the Cumberland Mountain town of Fallsburg, Kentucky, 88 years ago today. I am back from hearing a Men's Chorus rehearsal  of itwith the band . Some it was very moving; the opening violin solo was magic, and there were lovely moments of singing from the soloists and chorus that moved me. Unfortunately, there were also a couple of rude surprises, like finding the conductor without consulting me had rewritten a vocal section to accommodate two more soloists. I was not happy when this was dumped on me tonight. We had a whole skirmish in September because the Chorus had illegally committed the copy of the manuscript I wrote in 1985 to Finale without alerting me, and in spite of my protestations, what they're performing is the original version and not my revised and published version of 1987.

I haven't decided how to handle all of this. I will fight for a reversion to what I wrote and I will give up enforving the 1987 ecition but i am not certain how this affects my continuation with the Chorus. Still, for about 30 minutes tonight, I celebrated my dad's birthday.

DR elmore - If push came to shove, could you request some sort of "cease and desist" order? Or is it the position of the Chorus that you have sold them your arrangement?

Bruce, the posting problem only occurs when I'm quoting someone. It isn't clearing out the reply box. In one case two quotes were combined in one post, but I saw it and corrected it before it posted.

DR Jeanne - I think that's a combination browser/computer/board software glitch.  Sort of a "perfect storm" situation.  I know that in my mobile - iPhone - Safari browser, the quoting does take a few seconds to take, and if I click too soon, then I get double quotes.

*It's also interesting to note that the actress playing Anne Egerman in the current revival, Ramona Mallory, is the daughter of the original Anne, Victoria Mallory, and the original Frid, George Lee Andrews.  -Who is still at The Majestic as one of the Mssrs. in The Phantom of the Opera.

**And as it turns out, I very briefly worked with both Victoria Mallory and her daughter, Ramona, about 22 years ago in Richmond.  They were part of a somewhat clumsy, hoping-to-be-an-annual-tradition show called "The Twelve Dreams of Christmas".  It practically re-defined the meaning of "Cheese". ::)

Actually, she's the daughter of Victoria Mallory and Mark Lambert, the original Henrik.

Damn. Damn. Damn.  I had Frid on the brain.

A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC is a True Family Affair for Ramona Mallory.

So, here's the deal with La Manse, and any spare vibes appreciated.  We have a multiple choice offer in, so to speak.  The bank-owner has already said it won't make repairs, but at my realtor's behest our first offer details all the repairs needed to underwrite a loan, complete with multiple estimates/bids and references to the main inspection report.  Then Offer B, as it were, is a price concession amount with the total amount for all repairs subtracted from the amount we originally bid.  The realtor thinks they will come back with a counter-offer somewhere between our original offer and the price concession offer.  I need it to be tilted toward the concession offer to make me a happy camper.  Go to work.  ;)

I'm just taking a short breather here after taking a nice stroll up on the High Line. Even in the not-so-dead of winter, it's still makes me smile.

I am going to go on the highline before the year is over.

:)

When will you be back in NYC again?

*Also, I stopped into Madeleine Patisserie this afternoon - right before I walked over and on The High Line, and they had these mini Buche de Noels made out of macarons!

Hmmm... Let's check the archives.... -Honestly, I can't remember either. -I've been having to do a lot of reading over the past week for a few possible upcoming projects, I've lost track of what came from where.

And speaking of not-so-hot, has any other DR checked out the video of Susan Boyle singing "I Know Him So Well" with Elaine Paige"?  -Alas, I think Ms. Boyle's more "proper" technique - and most likely some nerves - did not serve her well during the duet.

my wake and garage sale

How efficient!          :P

I think it will be great!

Jack, I'm a bit confused. Is this wake and garage sale a combined event?
Is such a thing a Midwest custom?  ;)

I believe that's one of those pot-luck covered dish affairs.

DR Ben - So... How early do you think you'll be finishing tomorrow?  I really was hoping to make it down there last week, but, as I alluded to earlier, I've been in research mode the past couple of days. In any case...

I really do admire the work that you and Ant and the rest of the volunteers do around this time of the year.  On behalf of some of my friends past and present who benefit from your generosity, "Thank You".

Now I have to go to a Men's Chorus rehearsal to hear the band. I'm worried I'll run into Ms Clark there since she's the guest star next Sunday and in her own mind.

DR elmore - Seriously, if Ms. Clark - and a slew of other performers - mean "nothing" to you, why continue to antagonize yourself by even mentioning their possible presence and even more negligible influence?  If she's going to pay you no mind, you might as well do the same with her.

Better to bitch to her rather than about her.  It's more satisfying that way. ;)

I certainly enjoyed THE CLOSER tonight even though Beau Bridges wasn't very convincing as a transsexual. Interesting to see his and Provenza's camaraderie (or lack thereof through much of the show), and I liked finding out Provenza's name, too.

I can't wait for Edisaurus to do a teaser with:

"We need his testimomny not his testicles,"

At least we're down to one guest - maybe 3DDIFFUSION wants to jump on me at Broadway World again.

If you post an attack on someone who is feuding with Bruce, and don't make it clear that you're doing it at the request (implied or otherwise) of his, then I'll point out that you're a friend of one of the combatants. That's hardly jumping on you.  That's just leveling the playing field.

But you don't post there at any other time, so why carry a grudge?

Thanks for confirming that it was YOU 3D CONFUSION - and in point of fact I have been a member of Broadway World since 2003 and have made several posts there.

Begone before somebody drops a house on you.
