We are back from Macy's. T'was a disappointment. The windows are nothing special and the "Toy Department" is laughable. It's even less than it was two years ago, the last time we went. It is a very small part of the 8th Floor next to Santa Land and literally half of the display is candy!!! The rest is a mix of high end F.A.O. Schwartz type toys and crapola that you could get anywhere. The actors standing outside Santa Land are also a real mix of high quality and bored 20 somethings who need a job. We passed Mrs. Santa who looked wonderful and was very gracious and sweet and not 10 feet away was the most bored "elf" I ever saw. He was about as tall as Will Ferrel (sp) in the movie Elf but with none of the sweetness and excitement of the character. He looked like he would rather be anywhere else but on Macy's 8th Floor directing traffic at Santa Land. Oh, well. Another memory tarnished.
We then walked over to Lord & Taylor's who still have wonderful, wonderful windows. They are beautifully done and even though I'm sure the figures are used year after year they still look gorgeous. There are not as many windows this year. They took the last two and used them for regular displays but it was worth the walk in the cold to see them.
We then took the subway home, had lunch and then went back out to
Tea and Sympathyto get our English treats for Christmas. We bought Christmas Crackers for Christmas day dinner with Anthony's relatives. We also bought a Christmas pudding and hard sauce for after Christmas Eve dinner and I bought a box of English candies for Anthony's mum (see how English I've become).
Now we are home for the rest of the day and evening. I'm on the laptop in the living room and Anthony is on the desktop in the bedroom (working on something creative) and we both have mugs of hot chocolate with mini marshmallows and crushed candy canes. I have to go downstairs and check the mail soon.
That's all from Chelsea.
