Back from the long jog - had to do it.  A couple of days ago when I started my car, the battery seemed weak.  Yesterday, I went out in the morning and afternoon and started it up, and it was really hard to start.  I'm sure this all stems from when it got drained because I'd left the headlights on for an hour, and the fact is I really haven't driven much since then.  So, I just tried to start it and I really didn't think it was going to start - it finally did, and then I just drove around for twenty minutes to let it charge up.  I got home, turned the engine off, and started it again and it seemed okay.  We'll see how it is in two hours when I leave - if it's problematic, I may not go to the Wechter do - it's really far and I don't want to worry about a dead battery when I'm that far from home.  However, if it starts okay I'll do it, because then I'll be driving steadily for forty-five minutes and that should charge her up good and then two hours later I'll be doing a second forty-five minutes.  And tomorrow I've got the exact same drive because that's where I have to go to get the booklets signed.  If it feels weak in the morning, however, I'll just go buy a new battery.  I REALLY need a new car is what I need and I think I'm going to have to address that this very week.

Some car bargains to be had, they say.

DR ELMORE I met Mr Steve Tesich when we did a production of his play SQUARE ONE.  He signed my copy of the play script and was very nice about our show.

Weak batteries cause many problems and much insecurity.

I loved all the pictures that have been posted, so far! ;D

Today, the family is all getting together at my sister's house.  My sister said to come over anytime after 1:00 pm.

Well, it's well after 1:00 pm and I'm still at home.  I need to take a shower, get dressed and go to my sister's house.

Have a good day, all!

I am listening to the Sajid Khan LP.  Most entertaining.....to be followed by the Kurt Russell LP.

JRand, I have a Sajid Khan Bollywood movie, made after he finished that TV show here and returned to India to play leading man roles. I have not yet watched it (other then a couple of the songs), but it looks very 1970s-ish, and he is quite handsome.

IT'S CHRISTMAS AND WE'RE JEWISH

IT'S CHRISTMAS AND WE'RE JEWISH
AND WE'VE GOT A TREE AND LIGHTS
OUR PARENTS ARE EMBARASSED
AND IT CAUSES LOTS OF FIGHTS

THEY TALK ABOUT TRADITION
TILL OUR HEADS BEGIN TO ACHE
BUT THIS IS THE POSITION
THAT WE PASSIONATELY TAKE

CHRISTMAS MEANS PEACE
CHRISTMAS MEANS LOVE
THOSE ARE THINGS THAT EVERYONE
DESERVES A LITTLE OF

SO CHRISTMAS ISN'T JUST FOR CHRISTIANS
ANYMORE THAN MATZO BALLS AND BLITZES
ARE JUST FOR JEWS

CHRISTIANS CAN BE JEWISH
AND OUR HOUSE IS LIVING PROOF
MENORAH IN THE LIVING ROOM
AND REINDEER ON THE ROOF

STOCKINGS HANGING BY THE CHIMNEY
RIGHT WHERE THEY BELONG
AND WE STUFF THEM ALL WITH DREIDELS
WHILE WE SING A CHRISTMAS SONG
DECK THE HALLS WITH LOAVES OF CHALLAH
FA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA

THINK BACK TWO THOUSAND YEARS
AND YOU'LL ADMIT IT'S TRUE
THE MOM AND DAD WERE JEWISH
AND THE KID WAS JEWISH TOO
WISE MEN CAME TO BETHLEHEM
EACH CARRING A BOX THEY WISHED INSTEAD OF FRANKINCENSE
HE'D BROUGHT A LITTLE LOX

SANTA FILLS HIS BAG WITH TOYS
AND LOADS IT ON HIS SLEIGH
THERE ARE SO MANY GIRLS AND BOYS
YOU HEAR HIM SAY "OY VAY"

RUDOLPH IS ADOPTED
BUT HE TREATS HIM LIKE A SON
AND HE'S GETTING HIM A NOSE JOB
[spoken as Rudolph – “She thinks I’m cute!”)
WHEN THE HOLIDAYS ARE DONE

CHRISTMAS MEANS PEACE
CHRISTMAS MEANS LOVE
THOSE ARE THINGS THAT EVERYONE
DESERVES A LITTLE OF

SO CHRISTMAS ISN'T JUST FOR CHRISTIANS
ANYMORE THAN MATZO BALLS AND BLITZES,KNISHES (BLESS YOU) GEFILTE FISHES
AND WISHES FOR PEASE AND LOVE

I watched WHITE CHRISTMAS on AMC HD this morning. The last 15 or so minutes sure to make me teary eyed.

And some of those dancers were sure pleasing to the eye.

And doesn't Vera Ellen look like she could have been the model for the first blonde ponytail Barbie? Same hair, same face, and same figure.

I think I will do some reading. Btw, DR Jane I got that book you recommended from the library (the first book in the MILLENIUM series). Although i still have one book to finish first.

At my library they only have books 1 and 2 in English. But they have book 3 in french. I will let you know what i think after i read it.

i hope you like it.  i thought book 2 was much, much better than 1 but they must be read in order.  you are lucky you can read book 3 without waiting for the english release.

Just got back from seeing UP IN THE AIR

Excellent!

I would say it and THE HURT LOCKER appear to be the front runners for the Best Picture Oscar this year.

HURT LOCKER was okay, but I liked INGLORIUS BASTERDS better.

I'm dawg-sitting for my nephew - when I got back the pups were ecstatic at having company of their very own. And, of course, they slept on my bed with me - two 90-pound dreamers, rolling around all night... who wanted to rise and greet the day at 6:30... Still, dog-generated insomnia is better than no dogs! So, maybe I'll have a nap this afternoon...

last night we let sherlock sleep on the bed for the first time since i returned home.  he was a very happy boy and kept snuggling, alternating between us.

because of this shoulder i have to sleep practically sitting up, and i have to get up multiple times during the night to stretch my arm.  after one of my stretches, before i could completely settle back into the pillows & pull the blankets up, sherlock flopped his body over my legs.  i was stuck in bed sitting strait up petting him.

DR Jane, I have a book recommendation for you (and we don't even sell it at Borders!):  Robert Goddard's PAST CARING.  I've always liked Goddard's writing, but, this book is astonishing.  A mystery, a romance, a mysterious romance and history (as well as historical figures) which simple leap from the page.  You won't be disappointed.

After seeing DR RonP's pictures (of the houses with lights on outside) i'm curious if there are a lot of decorated houses where DRs live.

I was wondering also if it's more common in places where this is a lot of snow.

Here there are tons of houses with lights on outside (probably more than 1/3 of all houses).  But there are so many that are completely gawdy!

I don't know who they had at the neighbors, other than I saw they hired "help" to serve people and clean up.  For me, that's too impersonal - I would never have a party so large that I'd need hired help to serve food and drink.  But that's Studio City for you.

guess it depends how good the food is  ;)  i've been to catered parties that were very nice and not overly large.  i've given business parties that were a good sized and found it helpful to hire teenage girls to help set up, serve & clean up.  for my personal entertaining i like to keep it smaller & do it myself.
