It should.  And, if it turns out that you can't make a donation via text, you will get a bounce-back message saying so. In other words, it can't hurt to try.

well, their website offers:

Virgin Mobile USA wants you to know that there are several ways you can contribute to the earthquake relief efforts for Haiti.

The following Text to Donate shortcodes work on Virgin Mobile phones:
•   Text "YELE" to 501501 to donate $5
to Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti organization and contribute to the relief effort.
•   Text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10
thru the American Red Cross to contribute to the relief effort.
•   Text the word "Haiti" to 85944 to donate $5
On behalf of the Union Rescue Mission in cooperation with the International Medical Corps.

Standard messaging fees do not apply for the above shortcodes when making a donation to help Haiti.

I have sent them a Message asking if the donation amount is an added charge.

I sure hope not - if it comes from my account balance I can afford to donate about $250!

Is anybody else going to watch the Golden Globes tonight?

I will be recording it, but I won't watch live. There are too many other things on, and I'll probably be working, too. After I read the list of winners, I'll go back to the ones I like and watch acceptance speeches.

That's an interesting way to do it.  For me i would not want to know the winners before watching.

I think I will also check out the red carpet. Although we don't seem to be getting the usual E red carpet. Guess i will have to watch on NBC.

Several rescue planes with supplies and medical personnel have been denied permission to land in Haiti - including two from Doctors Without Borders - they have been redirected to the Dominican Republic and then supplies transferred by truck resulting in a 24 hour delay in delivering help.

http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/press/release.cfm?id=4165&cat=press-release

This is being done despite assurances from Secretary of State Hilly Clinton that no such delay is expected because of her diplomatic skills.

In the meantime - the Red Cross is busy counting its money because compensation for its regional directors is based on how much lucre is raised in their individual parts of the country, and no money can be earmarked until the salary portion is first deducted....and that can't be determined until all the money is collected and counted.  And of course, the amount of money sent out must be totaled so that a bill for the services can be sent to the proper governmental agencies.

Got a very sad email this morning that the top three people in UMCOR, the Methodist Relief Mission, who had been living and working in Haiti for years, were all killed in the earthquake.

I'm up and printing pages, after which I'll go Xerox and the deliver.

bk - Have you thought of investing in a personal laser copier for your home environs?  It may be more cost-effective for you in the short-long-run.  -And you could hook it up to your Mac too.

Don't most/many printers come with photo copiers? I know mine does. It's very convenient.

My best friend John bought a small laser printer for his home computer, and he said it's the best decision he ever made. With a wife who's a lawyer and two school-aged children, it was VERY cost effective for him to go laser.

I decided to watch last night's CASTLE rerun while I ate lunch. Good episode (the one with art forgeries and the suspect who had amnesia). I just loved the actor who played the amnesiac.

Then I watched the marvelous PARIS, TEXAS. Yep, it's a languidly paced film, but it never feels dull to me, and I find the ending both triumphant and tragic at the same time. It's a terrific film.

I listened to a nice chunk of the commentary. I had NO idea the child actor who plays Harry Dean Stanton's little boy was Karen Black's son. (Karen Black's husband assisted with the script when Sam Shepard went off to write and film COUNTRY.)

Sunday afternoon greetings!  Thank you for the anniversary wishes to DRs:

TCB
JRand
Jose
Jane
Ben
Edi
Jennifer

The cake was a hit with the folks at church, as were the pictures.  I'll post photos later, but not 'til after I watch the skating and then go out to dinner with Richard and my mom and niece.  Not only are we celebrating our anniversary, but the competion of my mom's move.  Laura finished clearing out the garage this afternoon and Mom will turn in the keys tomorrow (a day early!).  Then I think she'll be ready to be left alone to putter in the new place for a while.

There was the theatrical trailer on the first disc, too, which I watched.

I also had time to watch the first special feature on disc two - a 30 minute interview in German with director Wim Wenders. Pretty much repeats what he talked about in the commentary on the unusual way the script got written. He told about winning the Golden Palm at Cannes, and how disappointed he was with the distribution of the film in Germany (it was a big hit in many other European countries and Japan, but didn't get good distribution in Germany. Of course, it flopped big time in America.)

After a quick internet surf, I'm hopping off-line so I can get the movie and video/audio quality written up and then return downstairs to put away the folded laundry and then get back to work on those bonus features for PARIS, TEXAS. Then, I'll try to fit in some prime time TV.

Several rescue planes with supplies and medical personnel have been denied permission to land in Haiti - including two from Doctors Without Borders - they have been redirected to the Dominican Republic and then supplies transferred by truck resulting in a 24 hour delay in delivering help.

Well, I guess diverting them makes more sense then telling them to go back! Doctors without Borders is not the only emergency show in town - there is clearly more demand for emergency use of the airport than it has capacity. Having an additional emergency hospital capability is probably of no more pressing need than to have medicines, infant formula and potable water. Diverting the first flight might put a 24 hour delay in the first phase of establishing the new medical facilities, but it will then take future pressure off of the airport because all the follow-on planes can be diverted and the new pipeline can flow smoothly. Much of the airpost log jam has been caused by private international charters delivering VIPs for their photo-ops of offering aid!

I'm sure setting up a secondary delivery route via the DR was a top priority for the USAF running the show; and I'm sure every one delivering aid can make a case for front-of-the-line status.

Yes, but....

The combination ink-jet scanner/printer/copiers do not begin to have the production rate (pages/minute) that the laser printers do. And the consumable cost per page (ink/toner) is generally less than for laser printers. Also the combo ink-jet machine can not support the same duty cycle of useage as a laser can. When I was doing my consulting work, my 10,000 personalized letters/day effort would have turned a personal ink-jet unit to smoking scrap.
