A mutual friend of DR Druxy's and mine sent me this joke this morning:  A Jewish mother walks her son to the school bus corner on his first day of kindergarten. "Behave, my  Buibaleh". "Take good care of yourself and think about your mother, Tataleh!  Come right back home, Schein Kindaleh. Your Mommy loves you, my Ketsaleh!" At the end of the day the she runs to her son and hugs him. "So what did my Pupaleh learn on his first day of school?" The boy answers, "I learned my name is Jerry."

So, who's the "mutual friend"?

As for the Men's Skating - NBC is showing a Men's Skating Recap today/Saturday from 3:00pm-5:00pm EST (maybe 3:30pm-5:30pm) - Check your local listings. All the major "skates" are supposed to be shown.  -And, then they are supposed to be available on the web.  -Although, NBC has already come under a lot of criticism for their rather stingy Olympic video content on their site.

Thank you SO much for this information. I'll be sure to set the DVR to pick this up. Maybe I can at long last see Plushenko's long program.

You're welcome, DR MattH.  Although...

I just checked NBC's online schedule, and, of course, there's nothing listed in this afternoon's schedule about figure skating.  But, again, that may mean nothing.  Or nothing. :-\

*We set our DVR here yesterday morning as soon as we saw the promo run during "The Today Show".  From the promo it looked like it was going to be a dedicated two-hour block.  -Although, I did notice that they did run a recap of Lysacek's win yesterday afternoon during the 3:00pm block.  We shall see.

UGH!

I just rechecked some other listings, and it looks like the Men's Figure Skating recap did run yesterday afternoon.  Hmmm... However, if you have "Universal Sports", then you can watch an "in focus" feature at 2:00pm EST this afternoon.

However, for those DRs who are Time-Warner Cable subscribers, here's how you can access the content on Olympics Online Connect.  -It may be applicable to other service providers.

Hi there -  so, my Grandmother is now in a rehab facility where she is being rehabed and things like that.  Her dementia is not getting any better (does it ever?), but we're told that this well help her start "over" and we'll go from there.  As long as she is comfortable and still with us, that is what counts.  I stopped by her place the other night - which is where my vocal coaching studio is (in her garage) and my brother and mother live (it's a duplex) and where I spent at least a good portion of my childhood and early adult life, and found it very strange to be there.  There's a play in this somewhere, and maybe someday it will happen.

In other news... is there other news?  Just the normal stuff, I suppose.  We opened Beauty and the Beast Jr last night, which is fine. We won't talk about the train wreck in Act Two where Gaston, for the first time ever, was two beats behind the music, and didn't bother to catch up and the ensemble took their cues from him.  Even though I was in the pit (with me and the computer) waving my baton and mouthing the words, no one seemed to notice.  We'll be running that number today before the matinee.  I do like the "Jr" shows and I like the accompaniment they send you, especially for the Disney shows.  We've been so good in rehearsal following the music and such, I hope we can pull that together.

More at 11:00...

Matthew, I know how dispiriting it can be.  My grandmother, who lived to be well into her 90's, devolved in her later years, long before anyone really knew (or at least was talking about) Alzheimer's.  While it was sad, it could also be kind of funny.  My grandmother was about as straitlaced as they came (she had even been President of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, which, considering my mother's fondness for bourbon, I found rather ironic).  As she got further into her dementia, all the "stops" were pulled, as it were, and she evidently started flashing the elderly men in the retirement home, as well as blurting out "come on"'s.  We were simultaneously aghast and amused.

Btw...

Last night's second concert by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra had to be one of the most exciting and soul-satisfying concerts I've ever attended.  The first half consisted of Brahms' Violin Concerto with Viktoria Mullova taking the solo honors, and the second half started off with a short work by Verbey, "Conciso", and Bartok's "Concerto for Orchestra".  The playing from all sections of the orchestra was outstanding, and Maestro Nézet-Séguin's conducting was masterful - great sense of pacing and architecture and detailing.  As soon as the final downbeat of the Bartok sounded, there was a truly spontaneous and well-deserved standing ovation. -I haven't seen that in New York City in a long time - especially at a symphony concert.

*And then they offered Ravel's "Le jardin féerique" once again as an encore.  Once again, truly beautiful and moving.

I found out how to make it stop raining.  Simply take any houseplants you have outside to give them a drink.  And VOILA-- no more rain.   :-\

Didn't you enjoy the peat moss?

Last night you queried:

"Is there an adjectives for someone who cares about animals?"

Yes, dear, it is "carnivore'.

Miss Dixie Bell has indeed had a ride in the car with a trip to the drainage authority.  She ran me ragged.  Between panting on the floor, she is grinning from ear to ear.

I thought that was a joke.  What is special about the drainage authority?  It sounds like a place to dump a dog, not to play. ;D
