Before I left for lunch, I watched last week's one hour episode of THE OFFICE. Hilarious in many scenes, and I teared up a couple of times, too, with the birth of Jim and Pam's baby girl and the office's interest and support of her labor and the aftermath.

When I got in from lunch, I watched the DVD of BIGGER THAN LIFE. I think it's a good film but not a great one. Very dark, of course, but I got irritated with the "secrets" and with Barbara Rush's 50s mom (who chose to wait out the bizarre behavior through the weekend instead of getting help and who stood by letting the two men fight at the end instead of trying to lend a hand. She finally did call for help, but just standing there doing nothing while they tore up the house was either bad direction or bad writing. Not at all realistic.)

Obviously, at least two people disagree with me. Both the commentator and a critic who does a critical analysis of the film on the bonus features  think it's Ray's best movie. Oh, boy, I don't.

I sampled the commentary (about 20 minutes' worth; I want to listen to the whole thing, though. It's too scene-specific with too much description of stuff we can see for ourselves, but I do like the analysis).

There's a half hour CAMERA THREE interview with Ray in 1977, but almost all of it talks about REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE. BIGGER THAN LIFE is never mentioned.

So, I still have a couple of other features on the disc to watch which I'll do when I go back down. I must also skim through today's soaps before I'll be ready for prime time TV tonight.

The Helen Mirren joke immediately reminded me of the interaction between Fred and Ginger in - I think - THE GAY DIVORCEE.

Fred plays the coach driver so he can take Ginger to the hotel in the horse coach.  It's one of those where the driver sits above and behind the passenger.

Ginger starts asking questions about the horse....."Who was his sire?"

Fred gives the name of the sire.

Ginger:  And who was his dam?

Fred:  Beg pardon, ma'am?

Ginger:  I asked, who was his dam?

Fred: Oh, I'm sorry, ma'am, they didn't give a ...  (sound of Ginger slamming the roof door shut to end the conversation).

Her performance is just fine. The character is a typical 50s LEAVE IT TO BEAVER mom, and we're just so used to seeing more assertive women nowadays. She's playing what would have been the norm for a woman playing a loving housewife and mother in a 50s movie. I just found it irritating to watch now. No slam on Barbara whom I've always enjoyed.

I see the Oscars gained about 5 million viewers this year as opposed to last - 41.3 million average over the three plus hours.

I'm now going to hop off-line and get some writing done. Then, I'll have to head down to finish up today's work assignment and then settle in for some prime time TV.

Other than the soaps, there's nothing on the DVR to catch up with, so I'll have to dig through my stuff to find something I want to watch until I begin watching CHUCK off the DVR around 8:30.

Vibes Ginny is hearing good news at the doctor's!!!

Thank you, DR Jane - he said about what I expected:  it may or may not be due to the blood thinners, but we'll do another blood test a week earlier than expected (this Friday).  There's really nothing to do for the redness, but it will be like a bruise and probably turn green and yellow as it heals.

These facts are so EASY to verify...yet, year after year, entertainment wirters just make stuff up and pronounce this that and the other as though they had a clue about that which they are writing.

Wow!  DR RLP is reading my reviews!   ;D

Well, for now, I'm not using any eye makeup, DR JRand.  Just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Back from a couple of errands and whatnot.  Have gone through half of the long musical and another chapter of my book.  However, going through the long musical is just irritating me so I'm finishing my book and if people don't like it that's tough.

I am working on a document on my Mac computer. The spinny thing has been spinning for quite some time now. I hope I don't lose the document. I can't do a darn thing with the document with that spinny thing spinning. I am not impressed with the Mac computer.

It was interesting reading the second half of the posts today, and trying to match what I remembered from the show to the comments..  The easy one was the obnoxious woman who interupted the director's speech when he won for Dcoumentary Short for MUSIC BY PRUDENCE (which is supposed to be a delightful short film).  At first I thought someone let Kanye West into the building.

Keith & I think Beau is a talented actor and we are fans of Stargate.  We were very disappointed in Beau on Stargate & did not enjoy him on the show.  I find it surprising & interesting to see the show named as a favorite.

Thanks for the congrats.  I don't know when the computer will arrive.
