I personally would much prefer quality over quantity in terms of posts here.  :)

With that in mind:

Oy!  I had a GFCI outlet snark hunt today at the new house.  We are removing the "water feature" from the front yard as it may be contributing to the leak in the mudroom.  The guy removing it had to use a jackhammer and the outlet he was using stopped working, but there were no circuits tripped in either of the electrical panels (yes, this house has two).  So I decided to go check all the GFCI outlets, and did in fact find one immediately in the kitchen that had tripped, but that didn't fix the problem.  I then went into all of the bathrooms (including two whose outlets had stopped working as well), but only found one more in our master bath, as well as one in the spa room downstairs, neither of which was tripped.  I was really getting concerned until I noticed right there on the garage wall next to the main panel was a GFCI outlet.  It had indeed tripped.  I reset it and Voila!, electricity to all the nonworking outlets.

TOD:
DVD:  BBC collections of Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Chekhov and Coward

Larry, I have all these except the Maggie Smith one...all have terrific stuff on them.  Might I recommend Coward's PRESENT LAUGHTER with an hilarious Donald Sinden or ABSOLUTE HELL with Judi Dench.

I've been wanting to watch ABSOLUTE HELL; I read the play when I was working at Drama Book Shop. I would like to see THE SEAGULL, if it's on the Chekhov set; I like a lot of THE CHERRY ORCHARD but that idiot woman and her "should I/shouldn't I sell the orchard" drives me mad. After two acts I want to slap her silly.

Either the Chekov box or the Judi Dench box have two version of THE CHERRY ORCHARD.  One b&W version with Gielgud and Judi playing one of the young women and one with Judi playing "that idiot woman".  I've only watched the b&w one so for, which I enjoyed...but then I don't have the same problems you have with the play.  I quite like it.

The young Judi Dench performance is the famous Royal Shakespeare Company production directed by Michel Saint-Denis right at the beginnings of the RSC, maybe the second year of the company. I love Peggy Ashcroft and Dorothy Tutin.

I know that several cast members of The Brain From Planet X are very heavily into Facebook, and some others are not at all.

I know that no one wants me to shut the board down and frankly I don't want to, but if we're just going to dissolve into a puddle of nothingness, and if the fun has gone out of it, well, what's the bloody point.  I have prided myself on the fact that this board is unique in what it does and what it provides, but sometimes it seems that everyone is so busy doing Facebook now that there is no time to have fun here anymore.  Which is a shame for those of us who don't see Facebook in that way - it's not a community or a board or fun like this place has been and will hopefully remain.  We've gone through this before but I've never quite seen it like this before.  So, let's have some discourse about it, shall we?

BK, everytime you threaten to shut down the board, it makes me want to say "Screw it" and walk away.  Yesterday you threatened to shut down the site because it was slow in the middle of the afternoon, and yet we ended with over 200 posts.

It seems to me that it would be a shame to shut down this site, especially now, when you have prodcutions of THE BRAIN popping up around the country and you are a few short months away from publishing your autobiography.  I don't know if this site is even mentioned in the book, but I know that once people start reading it, they are going to start Googling your name, and sooner or later will find this site.

Yes, I understand the "screw it" feeling very well.  I'm not really threatening anything - I'm a realist and always have been and always will be.  I've kept this place going through the good, the bad, and the ugly because I believe in it - not merely for my end of it (the notes) but more for this end of it.  But with certain people the staying away almost seems willful and that doesn't really seem sporting.  Perhaps I'm wrong.  Perhaps I should just shut up and let nature take its course, whichever way the wind blows.

Well, I still think that shutting it down now, would be ill-timed.

Besides, I would cry.

I don't think what happens at FB affects the postings here.  For the most part HHW regular posters share news at both sites.  Sometimes news gathered at FB is shared here, so if anything it adds to the posts & at the least is a washout-some there, some here.

Bruce, I rarely see you comment on anyone's page that we share in common, so how can you possibly know what conversations are going on at FB that are taking people away from here?

Personally, most of my conversations there are with people from other interest groups, mostly animal rescue & my Bernese Mountain Dog Friends.

I intended to post after the cocktail party last night, but ended up having more wine than I've had in a long time.  We then got a sandwich and sat at the bar where we learned the only two other people left sitting there had a cousin on the Kansas State team (number 31) and the basketball game was close and good.  So we stayed and cheered and someone bought me some mixed drink of some sort.  We cheered and cheered and Kansas State won.  By the time the game was over I was ready to get some sleep, which I did

Today I spent the day at the seminar. It was very good actually.  It was also fun because most of the people in this group I only know through email and telephone.  There was even a judge I only know through phone hearings!  So I got to put faces with names and I really enjoyed that.

Bruce I think you should stop calling it willful.  I don't even know how you can say that.  People may have left for unpleasant reasons but it was not to harm you, it was what they needed to do personally.

Definition of willful:
done deliberately, especially with the intention of harming somebody or in spite of knowing that it will harm somebody.

I think you will find some of our members spend a LOT of time of Facebook, whereas they used to spend a LOT of time with us.

Well, bk, if you happen to notice that "some of our members spend a LOT of time on[sic] Facebook", then that must mean that you spend a lot of time "of" Facebook too.  Right?  Well... ;)

If you're keeping track of people on Facebook, then, well... ???

Also, with Facebook's ever-changing format and notification system, it can look like some people are more active than they actually are especially if they have activated notifications for some of the "daily" applications like Horoscopes, Quote of the Day, some of the charity apps, etc.  You may see "activity", but that doesn't mean that they are active.

Have you considered asking your Muse, Margaret, to post? Or would that be sort of like a conflict of interest?  Or just something that is best the way it is?

Be sure to check the original date of some of those "Top News" items in your homepage feed. Some of them are days old, maybe even weeks.  If someone happens to post another comment somewhere down the line, it can bring that item back to the "top".

Yes, and you have TONS of friends.  Unless you join in on the conversations or look at each person's wall you don't really know how much time each HHW person is spending there.

I had a call from my banker today. I'm trying to refinance.  It's a bit of a hassle when you have a new business.  I had to have 2 years of income taxes and show that my income is increasing etc...anyway, it looks like I may qualify for a 15 year at 4.25 percent.  I'm at 6 percent on a 30 year right now.  My banker said if I qualify AND if the house appraises high enough (that's kind of iffy - but would mean no mtg ins) I will save over 80,000 in interest and will have the house paid off when I'm 64. I'm really hoping this works out.  It will mean a slightly higher payment, but not so much that I can't swing it
