Morning, all.

It's hard to choose a best Mexican meal when you live in a city with a taco stand on every corner. One of the places on the northwest corner of my house has the best carnitas breakfast tacos (roasted, shredded pork crisped at the edges) you could ever want. There's a taco truck a few blocks away to the southwest that is open until 6 a.m. offering mini-tacos with roasted, marinated pork and topped with loads of fresh onion and cilantro. A little lime juice and habanero salsa, and you're happy, happy.

The Mexican-Ecuadoran place on the southeast, the Mexican seafood taco truck next to the grocery, the Mexican home cooking with the magnificent beef soup with bones full of delicious marrow ... all within walking distance of a suburban house.

Yet the best Mexican dinner I have ever had was in Matamoros, a border town now overrun with violence. The place was called Mi Pueblito and was decorated with plenty of saltillo tile and large cages filled with parrots, cockatoos, etc. Perfect margaritas with extra salt, followed by two types of sauteed mushrooms, one with a chile cascabel sauce, the other marinated in white wine. A parrillada platter (a mixed grilled) that could feed our table of eight was brought out for two and we feasted on smoky sausages, mastodon-sized ribs, and more. A few moer margaritas, some excellent guacamole, handmade corn tortillas. Best of all, sharing it with wonderful friends, which makes any meal, not matter the style of food, memorable.

Thursday is a work day.....oh well.  We didn't get the heavy storms in my neighborhood last night, just the edge of the storm.....so lots of rain for a few minutes but NO strong winds or hail.

Good morning, all! Another day with the McGlinnventory. Yesterday afternoon I did some work on LADY OF THE SLIPPER edits with the wonderful Skip Kennon, and we discovered that his last round of questions and concerns on the scores had not been accomplished for us to edit the final scores. I believe we are now on hiatus for a cople of days while the copyist catches up with us.

I'm halfway through the orchestration of "Rosalie" for THE WIZARD OF OZ, and later this afternoon I have some corrections and adjustments to hand over to my friend Joseph. He returns to Canton tomorrow, so our work from then until July will be via the US Postal Service.

The McGlinnventory went quite well yesterday; we unearthed another carton with a lot of CDs and at the bottom of the carton were the complete full scores to Acts Two of Kern's ZIP GOES A MILLION and Act One of NO NO NANETTE. Good things continue to appear. We'll see what today brings.

Thanks for posting the review, DR George. I don't agree with its putdown of the material, and I can say nothing, of course, about the production.

Okay, time to get ready. Oh, the dog barked for about an hour last night around 9 pm.

BK,

How can you say such terrible things about that great, magnificent, no-talent artist, Vincent Gallo?

 :o

Didn't you see his masterwork, THE BROWN BUNNY?

Directing-wise, John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, Clint Eastwood or William Wyler are not even in the same league.

 ::)

What class!  What artistry!  Particularly in that graphic scene near the end of the film with Chloe Sevigny.

I ask you: Have you ever seen such passion before in a non-porno movie.?

 :-*

Sorry, I'd better stop now.

My nose is growing.

Actually, it's my understanding that Chloe's agent dropped her after they saw the film.

Wow, DR JRand--you never give up titles and I'm pouncing on this one--

THE EDGE OF THE STORM--the title of my next novel.  It will be about a beautiful young widow-artist who, on the eve of WWII, moves her ten year old son and rebellious teenage daughter to a seaside villiage in Ohio and into an old mysterious house with a century-old secret that is tended by imperious, demanding housekeeper and a young, handsome gardener with a past.

DR Elmore, I think it would be fascinating to hear a complete recording of NO, NO, NANETTE with the original orchestrations.

TOD: When we were landscaping the church several years ago, I made the daily lunch run for our helpers. There's a little shack nearby that made the best burritos. I should go there again.

Not clearly the best Mexican food, but the overall experience at a Mexican restaurant was the San Angel at Epcot - and the most enjoyable even of those times was when we took the indoor boat ride before getting shown to out table and then got to watch the boat rides going on as we ate.  It was a little dark there, so I don't know how great the food LOOKED, but it tasted great - and just so enjoyable to eat right by the indoor water.

Good morning!

Temperatures were consistent to yesterday's, so I enjoyed my walk a lot. It's going to be a beautiful day here if a bit too warm for May (87).

I forgot to mention a couple of things yesterday. First, I did watch IDOL, Frank Sinatra edition. Of the five, only two were even close to passable: Michael and Lee. The rest were mediocre (Crystal) to terrible (Casey, Aaron). It didn't surprise me at all who went home. It's clear now who the final three will likely be: the best singers from this season so there is at least justice in that if it comes to pass.

Yesterday I also got another review copy, the TV box set for FLASH POINT Season 2. I really grew to love this series during its CBS run, and knowing that it was still in production in Canada means CBS is likely going to broadcast season three this summer.

I look forward to rewatching these episodes starting tomorrow.

First, of course, comes Criterion's STAGECOACH which will be my work project today. Haven't seen the movie in years, but I am certainly going to assume that Criterion's edition will surpass the old Warners DVD I have.

After I finish FLASHPOINT (which should take me through Sunday), I'll do the Blu-ray of STAGECOACH on Monday.

Another night of multiple TV programs on various channels: FLASH FORWARD and BONES at 8, SUPERNATURAL, GREY'S ANATOMY, and THE OFFICE/30 ROCK at 9, and THE MENTALIST at 10.

Whew!

Don't really like Mexican food much at all. When we were in Mexico City, my aunt MADE me order a Mexican platter one evening so that I could taste authentic Mexican food before I made a decision that I didn't care for it. So, in the Hotel Alameda, I ordered one of these platters. I did sample everything, but I have to say that most of it just was not friendly to my taste buds.

I recorded last night's rebroadcast of THE  BIG GAY SKETCH SHOW, so I'll likely watch that while I'm waiting for my ride to arrive for lunch. That's the only thing on my DVR at the moment.

I love mexican food although most of the restaurants here have closed. There used to be one really near me called CHI CHIS. I used to go there for my birthday. Yum!
