COCK AND BULLY STORY

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were filled with bull (I'll stop right there), and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently shooting the bull with the bull.

TOD: I love reaching out to old friends on the Internet and making new ones, and HHW is a great combination of both.

I don't like hackers who try to steal my password and identity.

But enough of that. It's past time to get ready for work.

Have a great day, all.

Good morning, all! Another McGlinnventory day, followed by an afternoon of edits with Mr Skip Kennon. Following that, I have a late afternoon coffee date with Mr Rob Berman, music director extraordinaire, to discuss Encores! and several other projects. I haven't spent time catching up with Rob in a couple of months and I look forward to the visit.

What I like about the internet? HHW for one, reconnecting with people is another; if it hadn't been for DR Rodzinski's PLAYBILL column, I possibly would never have had a connection with our DR JohnG. I love ordering on line; now that  Joseph Patelson's, my favorite music store, is dead, I'm grateful for SheetMusicPlus and J.W. Pepper, along with eBay, Amazon.com in all countries, and other stores. And the porn is amazing.

Don't like? worries about identity theft, viruses, the whores on Facebook and MySpace, all that crap.

Tell a tale of cock and bull,
Of convincing detail full
Tale tremendous,
Heaven defend us!
What a tale of cock and bull!

Thursday morning greetings!  It's graduation day for Nashotah House, so Richard has gone to the memorial mass and breakfast and will pick me up in a couple of hours to go to commencement in Oconomowoc.  Afterward, we'll go back to the seminary for the luncheon.  It's a gorgeous day for the festivities.

TOD - in addition to HHW, I spend a lot of time at Facebook and Twitter and I'm trying to learn to like LinkedIn.  One thing I observed this week about Facebook is how my family is using it to communicate.  My cousin who lives in Japan and my DS Rob are in contact on FB, something I don't think would happen otherwise.  And I've reconnected with some cousins and friends.  Our family also likes to use the internet to watch TV episodes and I love it for travel planning.

What I don't like is the snarkiness that can occur in virtual conversations and the hurt feelings that can result.  One of the worst places is the discussion board on the Vera Bradley corporate FB page.  You'd think someone from the company would be monitoring that for the sake of their corporate image.

I've been carrying around a book with a man's naked torso with 6 pack abs on the cover; some photographic essay on Roman wrestling or something. It was shipped to me to give to a friend when he got to the states. Wonder if he'll pick it up today before he leaves the country? It's plastic wrapped but I have a feeling that if I opened it I might blush...

I'm sure everyone will be glad to know that in addition to THE CLOSER, I'm also doing the promos for everyones' favorite, SAVING GRACE. After we finished next week's promos, they decided to change the order in which the episodes air, so at 6 last night we learned that we have to cut spots today that will be onlined and  mixed tomorrow and on the air on Monday. Guess that will cut down on the approval process!

TOD:

I would say the top thing I like about the internet is instant access to information.  Whether it's to find out how to get rid of ants or to find the title of a movie or to find a store in my area that sells bar stools, it takes only minutes.

But closely behind that, there is finding people with whom I share interests, whether it be musical theatre or comics or asp.net programming.

Shopping and ordering on-line is terrific, too!  It still hasn't completely replaced my enjoyment of browsing in actual brick-and-mortor stores, but I love being able to find almost anything on-line and pretty much being able to instantly order it.  And eBay has allowed me to find things that I would have never have dreamed of, otherwise.

Conversely (and as I've often whined about here), eBay has sort of ruined the thrill of the chase for me as far as collecting certain items that I used to have to haunt thrift shops, flea markets or yard sales to find.  I still occasionally do still look through such places, but the good stuff is rarely there anymore because people think that almost anything can bring in bigger bucks on eBay (and they are probably right on that.)

I hate the stupid kind of spam.

And I hate how some people feel that, either because of distance or the veil of anonymity, they can behave any way they like without consequence.

And, being a guy, I have to admit it--I do like the instant access to all kinds of porn.  After all, isn't that what the internet is really all about?

My predictions for the final image (I have two possibilities):

1  A wide shot of someone on the beach of the island, probably the new "protector", watching an approaching ship bringing a new group of castaways...

2  A reversal of an often used image on LOST--a close-up of an eye popping open.  But this time it will be an eye slowly closing, the person behind it finding some kind of lasting peace...

TOD:

Aside from all the social things, the Internet is a good place to do business.

As a writer, I don't think I've had to mail a hard copy of a manuscript for five years.  I just send pdf copies.

On the negative side: Nigeria and all the other scams.

On the internet front - ever do something so goofy that logic tells you it's just plain weird, yet you still want to share it?

"Unemployment insurance" is an odd thing - if you're self-employed on a day, you can't collect for that day, but if you put together material that is more to promote yourself than make money from it, that seems to be looking for work.

So with that knowledge:

If CHER did THE VISIT (RE-MIX, heavier on the AUTO-TUNE) - BELIEVE parody (I actually wanted to give this one another try, it's just so goony
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTdmRqJ1pSo

And this one is just so goofy, but really depends on someone REALLY knowing the lyrics to "1776"

John & Abigail Adams Family ("Yours! Yours! Yours! Yours!") - assumes working knowledge of "1776" cast album :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bUcJKIYFyw

I know it's rude to post links and run, but it seems so on-topic today.  (I'm mostly reading, but the back-and-forth over unemployment seems odd and they clearly know what sites I go on, and HHW is googlable anyway!)  Assuming all comes out in my favor, it'll still go back to the date I first applied - but fight it they seem to be doing!!!

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not watching.

Suffice it to say they have lots to lose if I collect unemployment.  i can give details privately as to why, just no one post them here.
