Friday morning greetings!  I've been to the dermatologist for a minor procedure this morning and have a few hours to putter until I have to take my mother to the orthopedist for a follow-up about her back.  The funniest thing about my visit to the derm. was the work phone number they had on file for me - it was for my faculty office at Miami Univ. in Oxford.  That's the job I left in 1997 to go to work for Dayton Metro Library.  No wonder they thought I was a new patient!

It's looking like i will get unemployment insurance after all.  What i don't know is whether Unemployment made that decision overruling what the company was trying to argue, or the company withdrew what it was trying to say.

Once I have paper in hand from Labor, I'll be sure.  i heard it's being mailed to someone (could be me or them or both, I'm  not 100% sure) today.

This is nice news, but like getting the actual earned money that was due me to begin with, feels like having to "work" to get something I shouldn't have had to actually fight for - so i tend not to see this as a "win" - just an aversion of what would have been an unfair "loss."

I'm up, I'm up.  The doorbell rang at eight - it was the person to read the gas meter and the gate was locked.  I opened it and all was well.

DR FJL, did I miss something? Were you laid off? If so, I apologize for such late sympathy.

BTW, DR Jane i just read this:

To me this picture they have here of Daniel Craig is actually pretty much how i think the character should look:

http://www.imdb.com/news/ni2713937/

Funny, he didn't enter my mind as a good possibility for the role.

That is interesting that DR JohnG wrote that he believes american audiences would not buy THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO if it was dubbed in English.

So they will be happier to have a Swedish movie with English subtitlees?

I haven't seen many dubbed movies. But both of these films were dubbed in French here. And i liked it that way fine. Better I think than if i was watching it in Swedish with subtitles.

Keith prefers dubbing, when done well I also enjoy it.  Too often the voices just don't work well.  We prefer to watch movies with subtitles at home so we can replay what we missed.

I have heard multiple times how good the actress playing Lisbeth is even if she is too tall.

From JohnG:
Quote
She really was quite wonderful in the part, and the director does his best to make her seem shorter than the actress is in real life.

Thank you for the tidbit regarding the director.  Filming the movies all at once should keep her looking young too. :)

I don't know that i've ever really seen that much dubbing.  I just feel like Swedish would be a very hard language to listen to. I found the french dubbing perfectly fine and didn't have any problems with it.

If you had asked me before watching the MILLENIUM movies dubbed in french i probably would have said the same thing. But you could hardly notice that they were dubbed.

And i did watch the dvd in swedish with french subtitles for a few minutes and found it much harder to follow. Swedish is extremely foreign sounding to me. And i don't understand any of it. Now maybe Swedish with English subtitles would have been easier for me. But i really loved watching the movie dubbed. And i wonder why the dvd in the US would not have English dubbing as an option.

Here the dvd is either french with french subtitles or Swedish with french subtitles.

Well, that was a new experience. I just saw a coyote trot through the front yard. Looked like a female and must have pups hidden somewhere.

Well, when the tumbleweeds start rolling through, lend an ear toward the wind to see if you hear some ominous whistling.  You might need to take cover.
