It is a bit misty here this morning. Have I ever mentioned that I do NOT miss DC's heat and humidity??

Actually, cool weather suits me fine.

BK and I had a nice lunch the other day. It is difficult to catch up on all he's doing, since he is always doing so much.

It will be cooler here than in NY!

I'll say! The only person sensibly attired on Manhattan is the Naked Cowboy.

Well, since no one's mentioned it this morning, I'll say it: I am doing laundry!

I see state workers wearing trench coats quite often during the fall and winter, here in Salem.

Perhaps there isn't much call for it in sunny L.A.

Although, I notice in old movies that place in L.A women wear fur coats and men wear suits...and wouldn't they all bake to death in that heat???

My mother who was from England and was always warm wore a fur coat.

Yes, Marilyn is retired, Druxy, and doesn't do the interviews herself - can't remember who's actually calling.

Please send her my regards.

DR Jane you really don't remember the violence

Even your comments didn't jog it. ;D  I read a lot of books with a good amount of violence in them and I read this one almost two years ago.  I remember the relationships of the people more than the violence.

My mother who was from England ...

One of the gals in my Cardiac Rehab group is from England - and is a big soccer fan and was always rushing home to catch the pre-noon World Cup telecasts.

She is now rooting against Germany; she says - "I really don't like the Germans".

Of course she is 84 and was still living in England during the war (The real war - WWII) so I can understand a lingering lack of affection for the Germans.

My mother had issues with Germany and would not purchase anything made there.  Eventually she eased up on the country a bit.

DR Cillaliz, re: THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO.

How did you watch it that you didn't have both the English subtitles and the English dubbed version? (since I assume the dvd has both).

I would be curious to watch it both ways.

Cilla had to choose which version before downloading the movie from Amazon.

I was vacuuming the car when the Jehovas began circling the street. They parked in front of my house and chatted for a while. I went inside, because I didn't know who they were or what they were doing. Finally they got out and began going door-to-door, my door being first. I have a handwritten sign that says, "Day sleeper, please do not knock" that almost always works. They knew I was home and was awake, so they stood outside my door for about twenty minutes waiting for me to come back outside. Luckily, the front bedroom has a nice view of the sidewalk, so I could see when they left my house and later the street.

So, I just wandered over to say hello to the next-door-neighbor, who is digging more dirt again. I so very nicely mentioned that the city cites me for the dirt piles against my fence in the alley. He said he thought the city was moving it. I believe I was nice enough so that he won't "get even" with me. I know that some of the neighbors are reporting each other to the City Yard Police, and I don't want to be involved in that.

I lack your subtlety - my door sign says "Devil Worshiper At Work - Please knock to join the coven"

I have miraculously avoided learning anything about these THE GIRL WHO... books so far and I think I will jump into them as soon as finish slogging through reading the Charles M. Schulz book.  Or I might make quick work of the Stephen King BASEBALL BILLY book, which I couldn't resist picking up this weekend at Barnes & Noble at 50% off (plus an additional 10% membership discount.)
Post your thoughts on the King book when you get around to it. I haven't picked it up yet.

True - The Tales of Laura and the Randy Game Warden were more entertaining.

I am always amazed at the tid-bits of knowledge I gain from having Fox News on in the background - we listeners were just now informed that Cleveland was in Ohio. Ohio! Imagine that.

Arizona is becoming a very paranoid state. Perhaps they suspect the piles of dirt are the result of illegal aliens digging their way into your yard.

Well, you are in Phoenix; take advantage of your environment and arrange for a drive-by kidnapping.

DR der Brucer - yes, I am familiar with ABC-CLIO and, in the course of a 30+ year librarian career, recommended the purchase of many of their products.

I, also, have been aware of ABC-CLIO and Libraries Unlimited.  I'm not a selector, but our selectors have purchased many titles from them...our library even has some titles on standing order.
