Hi -

I'm writing this on my new "netbook," a small laptop.  Unfortunately, my laptop doesn't seem to be working.  I guess it was infected with a virus.  My friend at work is going to look at it tomorrow.

Another hot day in DC/Virginia.  We had a brief storm too, like New York, but I haven't ventured out since this morning.

Rob and the cousins and I went to the Greek fest for late lunch/early dinner and then Rob went to Cincinnati for church.  I took the cousins on a driving tour of Middletown and Franklin, mostly to see the murals that are painted on many buildings.

(Don't answer that).

Dear Chopped Liver;

How are things in Portland?

Yes.  And what do you think of Kettleman's egg bagels?  Our company forgot to bring me some.

Apparently this is a vegan friendly bagel shop, no egg. http://www.kettlemanbagels.com/

[I don't remember it hurting when I was young and they were the rage.  And I did do those moves shown in your video.  I was an adult when it became popular again and it hurt, especially my back.

Ha ha. If you tried hoopnotica you'd see what i mean by hurt.  Not a sore back during or after. I'm talking actual pain when it goes around your waist (a lot of pain). But it gets less and less each time. I'm surprised i'm not bruised. The pictures on the facebook page are astonishing. These people are black and blue!

I didn't know you could do the dance movies with a regular hoop. I've never seen anyone be able to make it go around their neck or knees.

I am sort of enjoying this LESTAT dvd - a very interesting and technological presentation....must have been even more impressive IN PERSON.....but damn.....the songs are all so DREARY so far.

I guess there is no such thing as a happy vampire.
Perhaps you should read Christopher Moore's "Bite Me." The vampires aren't necessarily happy, but they are funny.

If you think that the San Francisco production is dour, the Broadway version is even worse!  I much prefer the dvd of LESTAT in that city by the bay. . .which brings us to Christopher Moore (and in a way back to the original INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE).  Moore is in a class by himself with his wicked sense of humor.  He creates great characters, and uses them again in other books (see A DIRTY JOB) for full effect.

One of the problems with LESTAT, and there are too many to list, is that the producers tried to change too much for New York in wanting to include most of INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, when they originally set out to musicalize Ann Rice's THE VAMPIRE LESTAT.  The latter is a far more intersting novel, told from Lestat's point of view, rather than the whiny Louis'.  Even with the ever-charming Jim Stanek as Louis, he's still a dreadful, moping, unhappy character whom I'd not want to spend an evening being around.
In any instance, I don't think LESTAT gains any musical ground until Gabrielle's solo, "The Crimson Kiss" and Lestat's own second act solo, "Sail Me Away."
If  only Linda Woolverton had stuck to her guns and dramatized only THE VAMPIRE LESTAT. . . .

That was one major flaw.  Trying to combine two books told from different points of view.  That would only work if you were going to tell the first act from one point of view, and the second act from the other.  Still, you would need a better score.

However, td, I disagree with you about the books.  I found INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE to be a masterful work of fiction.  I found THE VAMPIRE LESTAT to be pretentious, campy, and several times totally boring.

I didn't feel that way until QUEEN OF THE DAMNED, but then it was so purple-prosy that I thought it couldn't entirely be accidental.  Then the next book came and was far more of the same. . .
I really love Lestat's backstory in THE VAMPIRE LESTAT - the wolves, the violinist, the mother, the tower . . .and Magnus.

I'm at home doing nothing, after having watched one episode of "Being Alive" on BBC and one episode of "White Collar" from USA, both recorded on the DVR.

How are Royal Pains and White Collar this year?

I'm still hoping that we will get both. but the channel that has Royal Pains has not shown it yet. And the channel that has White Collar did not get the rights to season 2 (i'm hoping that someone else did).

So tired.  I've finished the liner notes, approved the master (which has a wonderful hidden track on it), and entered a couple hundred names into the eBlast list.  Prepped the eBlast, which is ready to go.

I felt that a third of the way through INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE, decided life was too short, my patience was as well, and that Ms Rice desreved neither my kindness nor my time.

We just went to this one  winery this time -  we have gone out with friends other times and stopped at multiple vineyards but with  just the two of us we thought to stop at  one -
