Topic of the Day:  does Al Hirschfeld count?  Otherwise (in alphabetical order):

Berkeley Breathed (Bloom County)
Darby Conley (Get Fuzzy)
Jim Davis (Garfield)
Gary Larson (The Far Side)
Charles Schultz (Peanuts)

That's all that I can think of now.

I think I'll be able to do a high-quality scan of the Thurber - I didn't realize that my book of complete New Yorker cartoons came with a CD with all the cartoons on them - I'll see if I can lift off mine.

Tom Mankiewicz dies at 68; screenwriter for James Bond, Superman films

The script doctor 'created personalities, emotion and life' and gave the characters 'a wonderful sense of humor,' recalls 'Superman' director Richard Donner.

Tom Mankiewicz, a screenwriter and premier script doctor who made his reputation working on such James Bond films as "Diamonds Are Forever," "Live and Let Die" and "The Man With the Golden Gun," has died. He was 68.

Mankiewicz, who received a controversial credit for rewriting the 1978 film " Superman" and its 1980 sequel, died Saturday at his home in Los Angeles after a brief illness, according to John Mankiewicz, his cousin.

As a second-generation member of the Mankiewicz movie clan, he had often admitted he was intimidated by his family and its reputation. His father, Joseph L. Mankiewicz, the Oscar-winning writer and director of the 1950 film "All About Eve," was one of the most celebrated filmmakers of his era. His uncle, Herman J. Mankiewicz, co-wrote "Citizen Kane" (1941) with Orson Welles.

I went to Brighton Beach for a while to see family, and then we ate at Spumoni Gardens, which sounds like a comedian's name for an Italian restaurant but was actually a very good restaurant, boasting excellent food.

TOD:

Berkeley Breathed (Bloom County)
Peter Arno -- I had a book of his when I was a kid and it had all these cartoons of nude people in them!
H.T. Webster -- I had a book of his cartoons, too, when I was a kid and loved the Casper Milquetoast series, as well as the series on how to annoy your wife.

DR CILLA LIZ - Miss Callee has discovered some secret places where she likes to spend time.  She removed her collar with the bell and is much happier.

She sleeps on the table in my father's room or on the small hassock in the living room.....she likes to be off the ground or UNDER a protective surface if she is on the floor.

Good morning, all! I am in the middle of one of the Indianapolis charts, so I have to hop to it.

I slept fitfully last night; I urned off the light at 11, to be awakened by the Oaf Above Me somewhere between then and midnight, Besides wanting the pig deported, I'm wondering if I can get a lawyer and sue the landlord for not resolving problems I've complained to them about.

I have no other news.

Tuesday morning greetings!  I'll be in Dayton all afternoon with the grantwriters (is it December yet?).  Have some cooking things to do before I leave in anticipation of DN Lauren being here for dinner.

TOD - in addition to many of the ones already mentioned:

Mike Peters (editorial cartoonist for Dayton Daily News)

Jim Borgman (currently draws ZITS, but for many years was the spot-on editorial cartoonist for the Cincinnati Enquirer.  I miss his takes on current events.

DR Jane, you might find it funny to know that when i went back to the library this week your favorite book (not!) was still sitting on the front shelf for someone to borrow.

I guess nobody wanted it.
