My nephew called this morning and told me they had always planned to stop on the way home  and he has no idea what his mother is talking about.  She never drives this way, so she thinks no one else should either.  I did tell him she wrote me twice to say they aren't coming to visit and he thought that was terrible.

So they will arrive around 8:00 AM and will stay an hour or two.  We could go out for breakfast, but I think with a three year old (a very well behaved 3 year old, but a 3 year old nonetheless) it will be easier and more fun for us to eat breakfast here.  Sophie wants pancakes, but I think I'll make Whoville waffles.  I have a Grinch waffle maker that makes swirly waffles.  I think she'll have fun with that.

This morning I have gone into cleaning mode. It's going to be really hot, so I started the laundry early and the last load is in the dryer.  I packed up the pants in my closet that are too small now.  I'm not giving them away this time, just packing them up so when I get dressed in the morning and look in the closet, the clothes in it actually fit me.

Larry - Do I understand from your post the other day that CHICAGO is based on real-life murders?

If so - I'm not sure how i feel about factual real-life murder being handled in such a comical way.  it never occurred to me before that these are the deaths of real-life breathing people that we as an audience having such madcap fun with.

DR FJL, Maureen Dallas Watkins' successful play CHICAGO, source of the musical, is based on the trials of several murderesses that she covered for the Chicago newspapers. The original souvenir programs for the original run of CHICAGO with Verdon and Rivera contained photocopies of news clippings from the original trials.

Also, there's only one execution in the show: the poor Czech (Polish?) woman who can't speak English or afford a good lawyer. It's the show's one concession to reality. Watkins is more concerned with the sardonic humor behind the carnival and manipulations of the press hungry murderesses to be found innocent.

Saturday afternoon greetings from the 5th floor of Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton!  I just knew there were all kinds of HHW vibes coming my way and they certainly did the trick.  What actually happened is that I had a heart attack brought on by a blocked artery (not unusual), but the artery was (is) torn below the blockage.  That turned the attempt to do the cath in a quick-recovery mode (which was how they diagnosed) into the longer-recovery method to treat, with some very scary consulting in between.  Dr. Steven Jain is my new best friend and I'm very lucky to have been in Dayton when this happened.  Not that there's anything wrong with the spiffy new hospital in Middletown, but I'm not sure they have the level of sophistication to have addressed the complication.  I'd have hated to come here in a helicopter as a result of that consulting.  One of Dr. Jain's retired colleagues just happened to be in the building and he was brought into the conversation and told Richard that he'd written a paper on this exact situation.  Best of both worlds - young guy who knows the latest technology and an experienced mentor to back him up.

So, what they did was to insert a stent to open up the artery and let the blood flow that's restored repair the tear.  But they couldn't do that through the wrist and prepared both leg entries, just in case, in order to perform the procedure.  As DR der Brucer explained, I had to lie flat on my back until the ports were removed and then for 6 hours until they were sure the bleeding had stopped.  It was then tricky getting up and the first attempt didn't go so well.  But, by the time I left ICU last night, I walked to a wheelchair for transport.  The nurses joked that not many people leave that unit vertical!

I finally know something

Well you surely know more - like:

-you can't outwit a teenage girl

-indentured servitude is still alive and practised in the real estate buisness

-not all immigrants are ignorant, vicious criminals

-the sense of taste is generally under appreciated

I do know that some people have gotten their London Promises CDs because I've seen some very laudatory postings about it.

Thank you, DRs Cillaliz, Elmore, td, BK, and der Brucer!  It's great to be back!

Belated Happy Birthday to DR td!

DR der Brucer - I'm pretty sure I know what you found in RB.  DH Richard tells me I have a big box at home that arrived by FedEx from the VB Outlet Store in Massachusetts.  Placing that order was the last thing I did before leaving home Tuesday...

I had to lie flat on my back until the ports were removed and then for 6 hours until they were sure the bleeding had stopped.

It was early-on during this resting period that I tried to re-adjust myself by tuning on my side for a moment; this activity pulled off the daisey chain of dressings they had covering the punctures in my arm (they had "trouble inserting the port" and so I had multiple punctures - the result was a rather colorful demonstation of the consequences of a still very low clotting factor.

So, maybe Vera Bradley withdrawal should part of your rehab? I mean, shopping for VB did cause a heart attack!
