Well, you've read the notes, the notes were sans pith but had words, and now it is time for you to post until the pithless cows come home.

Good morning, all! I slept well, and I have a lot of typing today; my next job as General Factotum for this Herbert recording project is to provide for the print work all of the lyrics for the songs. I will begin with the lieder since they entail both the German text and an English translation.

My first job here is to tidy and vacuum the apartment. Around 10, I'll take my walk.

TOD:
  1. Movies:
         TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD
         THE GRASS HARP
         ALL THE KING'S MEN
         HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE
         THE LONG HOT SUMMER
Isn't every play by Tennessee Williams - except for GLASS MENAGERIE - set somewhere around New Orleans?
  2. Authors
         Eudora Welty
         Flannery O'Connor
         Truman Capote
         William Faulkner
         Carson McCullers

Monday morning greetings!  It's weirdly warm here in SW Ohio and our house was stuffy when I woke up.  Opening the windows helped a lot.

TOD:

GONE WITH THE WIND
SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER
DRIVING MISS DAISY
THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER

Best Southern-style meal I ever had was in Lafayette, LA.

Cajun catfish, crawfish, jambalaya and Southern-style cheesecake.

It was also the most racist place I've ever been in my life.

I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Odd that LAST NIGHT IN BALLYHOO was never made into a film--you would think that this would be a prime property...

My goddaughter's godmother Celia Weston was in this! She has a monopoly on southern roles.

Strange week ahead, culminating in my unemployment-insurance hearing on Friday afternoon, where i had won on the first level but the ex-boss is appealing.

If you were the scheduled speaker for a professional organization for next Tuesday and the program chair had sent you an email LAST Tuesday and called you this morning, wouldn't you think communicating back would be the mannerly thing to do?

I will be so glad to turn this job over to someone else at year's end.  They're lucky I didn't resign on Aug. 4.

As for the Topic of the Day...

All I can think of to add right now is Carson McCullers' "The Member of the Wedding".

Oh, and I guess the food writing of the Lee Brothers, as well as Calvin Trillin and Pat Conroy during their "Gourmet" years.
