Tuesday morning greetings!  We have high winds and a tornado watch in effect.  I'm on my way to the doctor to find out why the lab tech couldn't get any blood to test yesterday.

Congratulations to the Indianapolis BRAIN - I knew DR DakotaCelt and I should have driven over there to see it when she was in Cincinnati!

Happy Birthday, Jed.  You and Ann need to come to Portland 11/13 to see BK at Rave in the Nave!

I was a rather young kid when my parents sent me to Europe for the summer, utilizing my sister, who lived in Germany, as home base.  She and my parents chipped in for a trip over to London, where I flew into Heathrow on a tiny commuter prop plane that was really scary.  Anyhoo, I still remember taking one of those endless escalators down to the subway and seeing a huge, outre poster for something called THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW.  Things were different back in the 70s, lest that not be clear, and I was a little freaked out by the sight of a man in a bustier and panty hose.  :)

Yes MANY nominations for BRAINEX....but Encore Association is known for sharing the wealth......most egregious for me was the Set Design Award going to "Peter Pan" - designed by the daughter of one of the founders of said organization.

TOD:

I've never been much into cult films, but I do like THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL.

Perhaps, someday if somebody finally puts it out on DVD, I'll get the opportunity to add THE CREATURE WASN'T NICE to that list.

I liked DOING the Rocky Horror Show better than watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show.....although with the right audience, it can be most entertaining.

I have heard the music for the GLEE production of RHS, and am most distressed.....Mercedes plays Frank from "Sensational" Transylvania......

DR TCB - the article said "pieces of the ship itself" - but I am not sure it is the large piece of the hull that was brought up a few years ago.

Blow, wind.
Great wind,
Great Kamikaze,
Wind of the gods.

Blow, wind.
Build the waves.
Hurl the infection
Out of the ocean,
Blow, wind!
Blow, wind!
Blow, wind!

To me, GLEE + RHS = TCM (no matter what they are showing...)

I played Brad Majors for two years (!) when THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW played in Pittsburgh in the late 1970s.  The benefits were that I didn't pay admission to any movie theater in that particular chain, being interviewed on local and national television (the first incarnation of CBS' People Magazine Show) and attending conventions in New York.
The downside, of course, was the floor show and its choreography and costume.

When all is said and done, I like the music from ROCKY HORROR more than I like the film.
(I wrote a review of the original dvd release, which can be found here:  http://www.dvdlaunch.com/rockyhorror.html )

I don't like the menu on the new blu-ray either, BK!  It took me forever to get to the special features!

As for the TOD:
FREAKS
ZERO PATIENCE
MIDNIGHT ALLEY
AFTER THE FOX
THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL
CAFE FLESH

I owe my marriage in part to the RHPS, so I'm required by law to consider it my favorite cult film. I can't imagine enjoying the movie or show by itself, but I always got a kick out of the soundtrack and the comraderie of a good floor show performance and clever audience lines. I will also forever cherish the night at Eighty-Eights that I made Rochelle Seldin (our favorite singing waitress) drop her drink tray in laughter by doing the full Columbia solo (complete with choreography) during "Time Warp." *sigh* good times, good times...

TOD:

GUMNAAM (1965; although I do believe it was a success when first released. It's cult following seem to be outside of India, however)

THIS IS NOT A TEST (1962)

FREAKS (1932)

ZIMBO (1958); ZIMBO COME TO TOWN (1960); ZIMBO FINDS A SON (1963).

I know there are more, but my mind isn't up to speed yet this morning.

Why these folks in the poster could move right over to a remake of "The Blackboard Jungle."

Happy to say, I saw the award-winning production of THE BRAIN and saw it in excellent company...Mr. BK himself, JRand, and Evil Kurt.  Congrats to BK and Mr. Wechter and all those at Buck Creek .
