Back from my doctor's appointment, where he confirmed that I have costochondritis, a muscle strain that produces chest pain.  Nothing to worry about, but he told me not to do those overhead hand-weight reps that I tried last week.  They were also able to do the blood test that the lab could not do yesterday.

Re the Encores awards sharing the wealth - they're not a patch on the butt cheeks of the various and sundried Los Angeles theater awards - best this, best that, best supporting, best ensemble, best debut, best ensemble of an ensemble, best supporting of a supporting and on it goes - I always say it's almost impossible NOT to get nominated for something, and yet I have done that repeatedly and so have the great casts of my shows.  However, it's pretty simple - in order to be nominated, for example, for an Ovation award, actual Ovation voters (most are actors and writer and directors - not necessarily working) must see your show and, in my case, they usually don't, although why enough Ovation voters wouldn't have seen What If is a mystery to me - because I will never understand how that show's cast could not have received a single nomination for anything - they were really good and the nominees and winners that year were the usual crop of suspects who are always nominated.  For me, the most amusing wins for the Ovation awards are choreography - usually given to one of the CLO shows and usually to a person who has simply recreated the original production's choreography - that year it was The Will Rogers Follies - where someone got the award for staging Tommy Tune and Jeff Calhoun's work.

I'm up - I had a good night's sleep, but my calf muscle is still quite sore and I had really odd dreams.

At first, I read that as "costcochondritis".  I guess that could conceivably be a condition...

Hope those sirens stay silent!

LOL, DR Dan (the Man)!

The sirens didn't go off, but the storm has moved through.  No tornado here, but heavy rain and lots of wind.

"Yehudi"?

MBarnum thought "Menuhin" sounded like a Bollywood porn name.

Finally heard from next Tuesday's speaker - whew!  I was afraid her silence meant she was going to back out, but she's totally on board and will be there for lunch at noon.  Now, maybe the pain in my chest will go away...

I hope all DRs in "The Middle" stay safe and out of harm's way today.  -Some of the weather radar pics from Chicago this morning were truly frightening.

It's been along day and I am very tired. The bad news is no paymentys in the mail, which bums me out, but the good news is I received my copy of the Stephen Sondheim book today. I'll sit in bed tonight and read it and most likely be unconscious by 9:30 or so.

The meeting at the Loesser office was interesting: a gentleman wants to reconstruct and publish the original show that opened out of town, before Art Lund replaced Morley Meredith, Kermit Bloomgarden made Frank turn a lot of recitative into spoken dialogue, and Act One scene Two was drastically revised. I will be helping to put the materials together. Tomorrow I go to MTI to check out the new orchestra parts for my last work on the show in its final shape.

I'm hoping that my FINISHING THE HAT arrives today, too.  I just finished my latest read this morning on the train so I can jump right into the Sondheim book.

I was also hoping that EVENING PRIMROSE would be delivered to me at the office today, but no sign of it so far... (Did y'all notice the big price drop on it?  Ker-Plunk and Yay!)

And... I think I'm going to head out for a bit to stretch my legs and get some fresh air.  -Otherwise, I have a feeling I'll just end up falling asleep on my couch. Again.

I just took a 30-minute walk 'round and 'round the basement.  Debbie Gravitte sang to me the whole way, thanks to DR Elmore!

Helper is gone and I'm already exhausted but everything in stage one is pretty much done, which means I can begin stage two, which she's not involved in.  But for now, I must eat.  I'm thinking I deserve a nice Hugo's lunch.

Hello, everyone.

I have no time just now to read the posts, but I wish to say

CONGRATS to BK, DAVID WECHTER, and all involved in the Indy production of THE BRAIN for all the awards! I am not at all surprised that you won, but happy just the same.

Weather watch here is for rough winds and thunderstorms for the next half hour, we're on the lower edge of the front that's coming through.  Our skies are dark and we've had a few raindrops, but just before that started I managed to get a cemetery walk in.

In either 1975 or 1976, don't remember the year but it was in the summer and I was visiting my sister at Iowa State.  Anyway, she was in a summer theater company and wanted to hang out with her boyfriend after the show so she told me to get in this car with 4 or 5 of the guys from the companuy and go to Des Moines to see a midnight movie.  It's about 30 miles away from there and I was only 14 or 15, but the 70s were a different time.  Of course at the time I didn't know the guys were more interested in each other, but I digress.  So I jumped in the car and they told me when we get there, just chant "lips! lips! lips!" until the show starts.   There was a little recreational beverage and other imbibing on the way.  Anyway, we arrived and went in and I had no idea what to expect.   I had a blast!!  Back then the things people shouted and sang fit into the story and it was really cool.

Later I went a number of times in college with friends who dressed the parts and introduced a few people to it.  The last time I saw it in a theater was in the 80s.  The people yelled things that didn't even make sense.  Lots of swearing and I don't know, it just ruined the whole experience.

Some friends and I rented it a couple times and did the whole acting thing (sans rice and water) at someone's house.  It was really pretty fun and was the first time I actually heard the whole movie.

I loved Rocky Horror. I think I have a DVD of it somewhere. It's playing at the Orpheum this year on Halloween, but you can't bring props.  I haven't decided if I'll go

I'm back from Hugo's and way too much pasta papa and salad.  I can't even see straight right now - and I don't like seeing crooked.  I did get a whole slew of packages - Back To The Future, Alien, Evening Primrose, etc.
