I am agog--AGOG--seeing the ads in today's paper announcing stores opening tomorrow at 3 a.m.

Pshaw - amateurs! The stores here are starting their Black Friday Sales at midnight

Well that almost--almost--makes more sense, as you could simply stay up late and go.  But 3 a.m.?  Insanity.

My thoughts exactly DR JMK.   I'm sure the "door busters" go quickly, but when we were in Joplin a couple years ago for Thanksgiving we went shopping about 11:00 AM on Black Friday.  The crowds were gone and the deals were still in effect until noon.  That just seemed a lot saner

Today's newspaper was bigger than last SUNDAY's newspaper and cost $1.75!

Hmmm... I'm trying to remember when the weekday New York Times cost under $2.00... ???

Thanks, DRs Vixmom and Vixter.  Conditions will improve.  It's already turned to rain.

Okay, gonna get things in gear here.  Need to do a little preparation for Stanley Steemer's visit tomorrow and then do some self grooming before I go pick up Mom and head to my sister's.

Everyone enjoy your friends, family and feasts!

when no one was looking Vixdad changed the TV station from NBC to CBS and we missed all the Broadway performances in the parade -  did any one see them?

I saw them, DR Vixmom.  I liked what AMERICAN IDIOT did (The Time Of Your Life).  Did not care for MEMPHIS, MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET or ELF.

I wonder if it will be on You Tube later

Or maybe on the NBC website

As for the Black Friday sales...

Well, some stores are actually open TODAY(!?!?!) from 7:00am-Noon/1:00pm.  -And then they close down to let the staff re-stock and get ready to reopen at midnight for the crush of shoppers.  -Happy Holidays?

Some of the performances should end up on both NBC's and CBS's websites, and, most likely on the shows' own websites as well as YouTube.

*Of course, since they lip-sync during the parade, well...

WHOA!

They just ran a story during the NFL pre-game program that had the hosts choking up and crying... Very touching. -The story and the hosts reactions.

That is AWSOME. I wish our thanksgivings had that much hilarity. All that really happens is I sit there while the adults talk over each other. Tis the season to bring books, fa la la la la, and pass the mashed potatoes already dang it.

We'll try to be more interesting this year

I've heard DR Druxy has a great joke The Vixter could tell.

Truthfully, the Thanksgiving story is funnier than the joke.

 ;)
Still and all, we want the full story, which means the joke. You could tell it and leave the last word off  since we already know what that is.

I'm having real mixed feelings today.  I'm fine that Mom and Dad couldn't get here and as I figured they are going to go to my brother's house for dinner - which they should.   I'm happy to be home, but wish I would have at least been invited to my brother's house.  Choosing to be alone is a little different from not having a choice.   I'm still going to focus on the positive and not let that ruin my day...but I do have my moments.   I am thankful for all of you here

TOD - In 1977, when we were both young single Miami University librarians, my friend Becky and I went to New York for the Thanksgiving weekend.  We saw 5 shows:

A Chorus Line
I Love My Wife
The Wiz
For Colored Girls...
Side by Side by Sondheim

and, of course, stood along Broadway (at about 53rd) to watch the parade.  A family from New Jersey wanted to adopt us for Thanksgiving.

And, 30 years ago today Richard and I were in Michigan for Thanksgiving at my parents' followed by a weekend of pre-wedding parties for us.
that's a great set of shows. What a fun weekend it must have been.

As for last night's PBS broadcast of "Sondheim! The Birthday Concert"...

The DVD and Blu-ray run 116 minutes.  Here in Richmond, the PBS affiliate showed it straight through in a two-hour time slot.  In NYC, it was programmed into a two and a half hour time slot, with the extra half hour filled with interviews/pledge requests.  So, at least here in Richmond and up in NYC, the whole concert was shown.*

*Although, the DVD also includes "Something's Coming" sung by Alex Gemignani since that was performed on Tuesday night when the "America" girls were back at The Palace performing their show back in March.

DR the vixter - You could always work on your transcription skills whilst sitting at the dinner table. You never know when some of the "information" could come in handy. ;D

Did I mention last night that Paul's surgery went well and he was home and resting by noon yesterday?   I didn't talk to him until last night, but he said they fixed a hernia and did something to his stomach he still doesn't understand.  He did say he can eat already, that surprised me.
