For MBarnum and other lovers of kitsch (I mean that in only the nicest way), I received an e-blast from VCI Entertainment that I think is keyed toward industry pro's, but you can take 60% off your entire order with the code HOLIDAY2010.  VCI has a lot of 1940s films that I think would interest MBarnum.

Woohoo! I let Cat Freddy know and he did some pretty decent birthday shopping for me, and at bargain prices!

Freddy is a good cat ;)

Actually, DR Jane, if not for my Mom, Richard and I might have gone to Michigan for this holiday.  In addition to Mary Linda's family, my sister lives there and is recovering from foot surgery.  My niece is there from Illinois and my nephew and his girlfriend will join them all for dinner later.  Mom has no interest in traveling any more, so we're looking after her.  Also my aunt, who's pretty much a recluse.  We'll visit her before we pick up Mom.

You are a good daughter & niece.  I know you are grateful to have your mother to spend the day with.

The Internet was down when I came back to the computer - had to call Time Warner, got the Philippines and they had me power cycle the Apple Time Machine router and she recycled the modem and we're back now.

My houseguest has now come and gone. I enjoyed his visit, but I am also glad to have some time to just relax. Said friend is the sort who wants constant attention and it wears me out.

TOD:
When I was a little girl we would spend holidays at my aunt and uncle's (Eddie Fitzgerald's) house. I always enjoyed that. My aunt was a good cook, they had a lovely home, and my relatives more or less behaved themselves.

Bruce, Nordstrom usually has their menswear sale right after Christmas. I don't know if that has changed at all, but my guess is that would be your best bet--better prices and less insane. Somehow, I don't think you'd enjoy the madness of Black Friday.

I, for one, do not wish to even drive anywhere near a shopping mall tomorrow. But that's just me.

BK- Black Friday has a very limited number of certain items - TVs etc that are sold at very low prices.  They call them door busters.  This is what people line up for.  If you aren't interested in any of those items, it is still often a good sale, but usually the biggest sales prices end at noon or around then.   With the economy, my guess is there will be sale after sale up until Christmas and then again after Christmas.   Just guessing, but it started very early this year.

I don't think Black Friday is that great a deal and is certainly insane, but that's just me

Craig & Yogi are in our shower after a bit of "high" drama.  Craig was shoveling the front path where his car had cast a shadow preventing the ice from melting.  Sherlock, Yogi & I were watching him.  Craig noticed Yogi was out of sight and became concerned when Yogi didn't respond to his calls.  I walked around back to find Yogi had jumped into the pond, shallow side, & fallen half way through.  He was sitting with a thin layer of ice around his chest too scared to move.  With prompting from Craig he pushed his way through a bit more of the thin ice and wouldn't go farther.  Craig had to go into the cold mucky water, easily breaking the ice ahead of him, and pull Yogi out.

This just turned into our most memorable Thanksgiving. ;D  What a dog!!!!

I have only shopped on Black Friday a couple of times when it was the only day for Keith to have off to go to Toys R Us.  I always had the majority of shopping done long before then so our trips weren't too bad.  We went on our time schedule, not early in the morning.  I don't think the store were even open at crazy hours back then.

Yeah, it sounds like I'm better off just going whenever I feel like it.  The sweaters I bought in Portland were half price.

We had a wonderful dinner and then went through our Day to Day Trivia calendar and asked questions.

Before that we ate sour cream raisin pie and had coffee.

I think we're going to Michael's Craft Store now. We won't see Barnum there but then it's not even 5pm in Oregon.

I went to Wal-Mart to get a light bulb to replace the burned out bulb over my sink.  I didn't realize that it puts out about 20 times more light than my overhead light. I was going crazy trying to cook and wash dishes without it.   While I was there I got an inexpensive but attractivce area rug to put in the new room, at least temporarily.  It's only a 5x8 and I was going to get a bigger one, but this may be good enough.   While I was there I ran into a client. She felt bad that I wasn't with family today and invited me to her house, I thanked her but declined.  It was very nice of her to invite me.

I have been grazing all day on my Thanksgiving food and it's been fun.  I didn't ever really sit down and have a meal, just ate turkey when I wanted turkey, potatoes when I wanted potatoes, pie when I wanted pie etc.  Not sure if I eat more or less that way, but it's been easy to clean up.

I went upstairs and all three cats were in the new room.   I need to clean the hardwood floor in there and rearrange the furniture a little between the rooms upstairs, then I may just camp out in there too! At least now the cats have a rug to lay on
