This is not directed at anyone on this site, but I know so many vegetarians that it seems like all the foods they eat seem to be in the shape of meat.  Vegetarian sausages, vegetarian hot dogs, tofurkey.  Why don't they just eat vegetables as vegetables.

If you gave up eating meat would you want a substitute for it?

No. If I gave up eating meat I think I'd be creative with other foods and not have something that looks like meat.  But that's just me

No,  I don't think so.  I would think that eating vegetables in the form of meat would remind one of why they stopped eating meat.

I only say that based on my own experiences.  I have been a recovering alcoholic for seventeen and a half years; and the one thing I don't do is to go out and order a Virgin Margarita or non-alcoholic beer.

I see that PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT (THE MUSICAL) is featuring among its songs - I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER.

Have we ever had two musicals running on Broadway, at the same, featuring the same song?

The weather is really gruesome here tonight - it's been raining hard for several hours and it's freezing on the pavement, trees, power lines.  Now the wind is picking up and we hear that there's a huge power outage in town to the east and south of us.  If I disappear suddenly, you'll know why.

A female prison guard in Washington was killed by a prisoner over the weekend.  She was killed in the prison chapel by a three-times-you're-out felon.  She was required to work in the prison chapel alone, and had asked her superiors several times to change that policy, or to install a camera in the chapel.

Nothing was ever done about her requests.

One of the best loved local TV newscasters has been battling a recuring brain tumor for the last 12 years.  She has been off the news for several months now, because the tumor has returned.
Tomorrow she goes in for her sixth brain surgery.  Today she appeared in an interview of the news and we got to see the effect the tumor has had on her face.

If anyone can spare some health vibes (and / or prayers), her name is Kathi Goertzen.

Thanks, DR TCB.  We're fine, except for some water in the basement that Richard and Rob are vacuuming up as needed.

I think the opposite is true here.  If you find an enjoyable substitute, even if it doesn't taste like meat, it satisfies a craving.  In this case a craving is not an addiction & can be satisfied.  One of the things I missed was eating a hamburger.  Having a nutburger, which tastes very different, on a bun with all the fixings solved my problem & I stopped missing hamburgers.

I'm very relieved Bryan's current rotation is at a hospital close to home.  His last one was a long drive away.

We were invited to a wedding in Israel.  I'm tempted to go where it is warm & I have friends to stay with.  Keith reminded me now is not the best time with things as they are in Egypt.

Vibes for Kathi.

DR TCB your other story was very shocking......but staff cutting will always lead to cutting of services, which the NON MERIT politicians in charge never seem to understand.  And now where TWO people might have been a deterrent, one person has lost her life.

I watch television lying down, so that second opera clip looked very natural to me.

I see that PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT (THE MUSICAL) is featuring among its songs - I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER.

Have we ever had two musicals running on Broadway, at the same, featuring the same song?

Actually, yes. In 1905. A song was written in 1904 for the spring tour of BABES IN TOYLAND called "Beatrice Barefacts," but the writers liked the song so much, they put it into IT HAPPENED IN NORDLAND which opened in late 1904. In January 1905, BABES IN TOYLAND returned to the Majestic Theatre at Broadway and 59th Street for several weeks of its tour. During that period, audiences could hear Mabel Barrison and Gus Pixley sing it in BABES IN TOYLAND or go to IT HAPPENED IN NORDLAND and hear it performed by Lew Fields and Marie Cahill.
