DR JMK I can't find anything about where that Sinatra sample came from......but my guess is one of his television specials instead of a movie.....but who knows.

Almost everything in Indiana is closed tomorrow, so don't try to get anyone on the phone here.

Our lights have flickered a couple of times, so now we're all carrying flashlights with us - just in case.  I'm signing off now to take a shower and get ready for bed.  Hope to be able to log on tomorrow!

Vibes and prayers for Kathi - she was very courageous to do that interview today.

DITTO!!

~~~DOUBLE DITTO!!~~~
I knew that Kathi Goertzen had had problems before, but I hadn't heard that it had returned.  I just don't watch local news anymore. :-\
A female prison guard in Washington was killed by a prisoner over the weekend.  She was killed in the prison chapel by a three-times-you're-out felon.  She was required to work in the prison chapel alone, and had asked her superiors several times to change that policy, or to install a camera in the chapel.
Nothing was ever done about her requests.
Also, I'd read that the guard was unarmed.  That's just wrong.
I guessed she was to prevent a weapon being taken from her.
Well, hopefully they'll take another look at that policy.
This is not directed at anyone on this site, but I know so many vegetarians that it seems like all the foods they eat seem to be in the shape of meat.  Vegetarian sausages, vegetarian hot dogs, tofurkey.  Why don't they just eat vegetables as vegetables.
If you gave up eating meat would you want a substitute for it?
No,  I don't think so.  I would think that eating vegetables in the form of meat would remind one of why they stopped eating meat.
I only say that based on my own experiences.  I have been a recovering alcoholic for seventeen and a half years; and the one thing I don't do is to go out and order a Virgin Margarita or non-alcoholic beer.
I think the opposite is true here.  If you find an enjoyable substitute, even if it doesn't taste like meat, it satisfies a craving.  In this case a craving is not an addiction & can be satisfied.  One of the things I missed was eating a hamburger.  Having a nutburger, which tastes very different, on a bun with all the fixings solved my problem & I stopped missing hamburgers.
The "crumbles" that my niece gets as a substitute for ground meat for tacos is pretty good.  That's another thing where a meat-like substitute should be used...in my opinion. :)
Someone was asking about David Adam Moore the other day. Here's a bit of him singing Figaro's entrance opera from BARBER OF SEVILLE:
abnd another section with a strange camera angle:
I found nothing wrong with that camera angle.
Neither did I. ;)
And on that note (B-natural), I'm off.  Time to head home and ketchup on some TV from the last couple of days.
Until later.
Be safe everyone.  I was a bit envious about not having a snow day, but I sort of took one this afternoon. I said I was going to work, but I didn't. :) Our windchills are so bad that my meeting tonight was postponed until next week.  I am actually thankful that we missed the brunt of the storm.
I see that PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT (THE MUSICAL) is featuring among its songs - I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER.
Have we ever had two musicals running on Broadway, at the same, featuring the same song?
Well... Since the revival/revisal of Promises, Promises closed back on January 2...
I'm looking forward to it. I've heard great things. It's at the Mitizi Newhouse, a small Off-Broadway theatre. It's supposed to move to Broadway next season (there are no theatres available for the end of this season) but I want to see it now because there is no guarantee that the cast will be the same and it will be a different show in a bigger theatre.
I also ended up at Lincoln Center tonight, although at Avery Fisher Hall for the New York Philharmonic.  -Apparently tonight's weather caused a lot of cancellations which resulted in a lot of "paper" being given out.
Does anyone know what Frank Sinatra movie his monologue "The subject of tonight's lecture is rhythm. . .and so we say hip hip chin chin" comes from?  I have a remix CD and this song is refusing to leave my brain.  :)
I thought that was from one of his Vegas concerts. ???
Is that the Club Des Beluga remix?
-It's quite popular on the ballroom dance circuit.
It is my personal opinion that beets should be outlawed.
;D  Fresh beets are at least tolerable compared to the pickled ones.
I love pickled beets.
I like pickled beets too. -Especially when they're topped with horseradish cream.
*I've also grown fond of raw beets lately - very thinly sliced, and drizzled with olive oil, maybe served with orange supremes. -A very tasty, colorful and nutritious salad.
Am on hold for the next half hour or more with Southwest, trying to find out if I can cancel my trip. It went from 78 degrees during the day to 37 degrees overnight here. I can imagine what it's like up where I'm supposed to be going.
Cancel your trip?  Aren't you required to go?
I also thought it was required.
DR JohnG - I was wondering the same thing. Wasn't your original plan just to postpone your departure by a day? Or has the weather forecast affected your plans?
I like okra. It's too expensive out here to buy, though.
Okra should only be eaten in Gumbo.
Or pickled! I love me some pickled okra!
There was actually a 40's Sinatra flick where he played a music teacher--I remember a scene in the college with him at the blackboard.  My assumption it comes from that movie but I can't for the life of me think of its name.  I think it was one of his RKO films.
