I am a big believer that, when your world turns to crap over and over, the universe is saying to you that you are not where it means for you to be. I suspect every DR is now thinking, why are you still in NYC? I can only state that my life in Ohio was a long barrage of "move on" vibes from the universe that I ignored for a long time. My bad days in Manhattan are just general my-life-is-miserable moments. I do believe, DR DakotaCelt, that the universe is telling you to find greener pastures away from the horse's asses that shat all over you for the past several years.

TOD: I checked a volume of Richard Wilbur poems out of the library today. At the back, he included a few lyrics from "Candide" as well as one from a musical version of "The Madwoman of Chaillot" that he was writing with Michel Legrand. The lyric was "The Rag-Picker's Song" and it was thematically very similar to "Garbage" in Jerry Herman's version. Because I know the music, I think I like Herman's version better. But it would be nice to hear what Legand did in setting the lyric.

He published "Pangloss' song" (Dear Boy) is a collection around 1958. That was the only lyric I've ever seen published, but i haven't looked at his poetry for many years. I love his Moliere translations.

I just heard from the hospital and I'm schedule to be admitted at 8:30. I have to fill out paperwork and then get prepped so I'm assuming it will start around 9 or 9:30 (I may be wildy optimistic here). I don't know how long it takes or how long I'll be under (I see the anesthesiologist after the paperwork). Anthony will contact Larry when things are done and he can report to you all.

They say we may get rain over the next few days. That would be welcome, indeed. We haven't had rain (other than just enough to get the sidewalk wet) since New Years.

We may not have any wildflowers this year.

My neighbor said that the City Yard Police were parked on our street for several minutes today. I guess we will see if I get cited for my wildflowers.

I don't understand why wildflowers are illegal and never will so don't try to explain. Or maybe I do.  Some of the yards in town are a big mess of wildflowers.

DR Elmore, the book is called "Collected Poems: 1943-2004" by Richard Wilbur.

In his collection called "The Opposites" was the following poem, which seems most appropriate for HHWers:

"What is the opposite of string?
It's gnirts, which doesn't mean a thing."

If any of you have something to add to this mind-expanding piece (of what, I don't know), please post.

There is much better Sondheim fodder from "We're Gonna Be All Right" from Do I Hear a Waltz": you get a clever triplet rhyme of intellectual, ineffectual and homosexual.
Thanx to Woody for the speedy lyric search.

der Brucer

PS Mary Rodgers insisted the songs lyrics be gutted pre-production.

Woody offers his own take:

An intellectual is often someone with an intellect that makes sure you know it!

The lines DR John G quoted were the ones from "Do I Hear A Waltz" and it was Dorothy Rodgers who realized the lines were about the Rodgers family. And I am privy to much more than Woody's own take. Only I cannot reveal all that I know.

How about a PM, Larry??

Tuesday morning greetings!  I have a day of house prep today, because it's been decided that my cousin from Japan and his 7-year-old son will stay with us when they arrive tomorrow.  They may eventually move into my aunt's house (my cousin's mom), but it needs some attention and I want him to see the condition in which she left it last Friday.

That bad?

She's not ready to be featured on HOARDERS, but there were a few signs that assisted living might not be a bad idea.

I thought I was feeling a bit better yesterday, and I felt okay today, but I am still hugely congested and the mucous just keeps on keeping on - it just won't let go.  My voice is completely shot and I need it back in two weeks for the Gardenia show.  I didn't speak at all yesterday or today and still it's weak.  Blechhh.  Went to the diner and had a decent chicken salad sandwich and about eight french fries.

Here is my favorite 'state' song:

Copper comes from Arizona
Peaches come from Georgia
And lobsters come from Maine
The wheat fields
Are the sweet fields of Nebraska
And Kansas gets bonanzas from the grain

Old whiskey comes from old Kentucky
Ain't the country lucky
New Jersey gives us glue
And you, you come from Rhode Island
And little old Rhode Island
Is famous for you

Cotton comes from Lou-siana
Gophers from Montana
And spuds from Idaho
They plow land
In the cow land of Missour-a
Where most beef meant
For roast beef seems to grow

Grand canyons come from Colorad-a
Gold comes from Nevada
Divorces also do
And you, you come from Rhode Island
Little old Rhode Island
Is famous for you

Pencils come from Pennsylvania
Vest from Vest Virginia
And Tents from Tent-esee
They know mink where they grow
Mink in Wyo-mink
A camp chair in New Hamp-chair
That's for me

And minnows come Minnesota
Coats come from Dakota
But why should you be blue?
For you, you come from Rhode Island
Don't let them ride Rhode Island
It's famous for you

BK, you really must take a trip sometime to someplace other than New York, where you stay longer than a day or two.  One day in Florida and most of it will be in a rehearsal room?

I completely agree with you!!!!

I triple that. Florida is so nice. You should have stayed a few extra days!
