Found this:

What Did Delaware, Boys?
Suggested by Bill McGinnis

Oh, what did Delaware, boys? Oh, what did Delaware?
Oh, what did Delaware, boys? Oh, what did Delaware?
Oh, what did Delaware, boys? Oh, what did Delaware?
I ask you now as a personal friend, what did Delaware?

She wore her New Jersey, boys. She wore her New Jersey.
She wore her New Jersey, boys. She wore her New Jersey.
She wore her New Jersey, boys. She wore her New Jersey.
I tell you now as a personal friend, she wore her New Jersey.

Other verse pairs include:

Oh, what does Iowa? She weighs a Washington.
Oh, what does Idaho? She hoes her Maryland.
Oh, what does Tennessee? She sees what Arkansas.
Oh, where has Oregon? She's gone to Oklahoma.
Oh, what did Massa-chew? She chewed her Connecti-cud.
Oh, how did Flori-die? She died in Missouri.

Here's a second version of the song, which appears to go to a
different tune than the song above.

What did Delaware, boys?
What did Delaware?
What did Delaware, boys?
What did Delaware?
She wore a brand New Jersey,
She wore a brand New Jersey,
She wore a brand New Jersey,
That's what she did wear.

Why did Cali-phone ya,
Why did Cali-phone?
Why did Cali-phone ya,
Was she all alone?
She phoned to say "Hawaii"
She phoned to say ("How-ah-yee")
She phoned to say "Hawaii"
That's why she did phone.

Where has Oregon, boys,
Where has Oregon?
If you want Alaska,
(I'll-ask-a) where she's gone.
She went to pay her Texas
She went to pay her Texas
She went to pay her Texas,
That's where she has gone.

What did Mississip, boys,
What did Mississip?
What did Mississip, boys,
Through her pretty lips?
She sipped a Minna-soda,
She sipped a Minna-soda,
She sipped a Minna-soda,
That's what she did sip.

How did Wiscon-sin, boys?
She stole a New-brass-key,
Too bad that Arkan-saw, boys,
And so did Tenna-see.
It made poor Flori-die, boys,
It made poor Flori-die, you see,
She died in Missouri, boys,
She died in Missouri!

And, apparently, it was a song recorded by Perry Como

This is out of nowhere....a faint memory of a school room exercise...circa late 1950s?

BK, you really must take a trip sometime to someplace other than New York, where you stay longer than a day or two.  One day in Florida and most of it will be in a rehearsal room?

DR  CP how did the creature look in FRANKENSTEIN?  Did he speak - did the story follow the book more closely?

If any of you have something to add to this mind-expanding piece (of what, I don't know), please post.

There is much better Sondheim fodder from "We're Gonna Be All Right" from Do I Hear a Waltz": you get a clever triplet rhyme of intellectual, ineffectual and homosexual.
Thanx to Woody for the speedy lyric search.

der Brucer

PS Mary Rodgers insisted the songs lyrics be gutted pre-production.

Woody offers his own take:

An intellectual is often someone with an intellect that makes sure you know it!

I've had lunch, as well as a few printer problems. Our "absent dad" on this project does not make it easy for us at times, and we have two printers in serious need of technician services. We didn't have a computer in the office after the break-in in 2007 until I broughtr in my old iMac. This is ridiculous.

DR JRand, keep checking Amazon re: SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE. It was on sale for $17.99 when I bought it the other week...seems to have gone back up in price, however.

Hello from Houston.  As I walked from the gate to the next gate I realized that I flew through here on my way to Indiana.  Flight was fine - it went very quickly thanks to proofing and eating the weird omelet thing.

A. I was wrong about which Rodgers.

B. "Woody's take" was on "intellectual" not on Do I Hear A Waltz.

C. The lyrics quoted by John do not appear in the version printed in Sondheim's book "Finishing The Hat", nor are they sung on the original Broadway Cast Recording; they do, however, appear in the Kimmel recording of the Pasadena Playhouse production. The Sondheim Evening Tribute concert (1973) "was (the first presentation) with (the) original lyrics, which were never used in the stage production of Do I Hear a Waltz"* Neither the Tribute nor the Pasadena versions are exactly the same as the one published in Finishing The Hat, but are much closer than the thin version in the Broadway production.

Yesterday my sister put my niece's (1 yr 9 m) dinner up on the kitchen counter for a second while she went to the other room.  Then she hears "uh-oh". Someone she had managed to reach the counter, reach the plate... Anyhow my sis found the dinner sitting on the floor (plastic plate). I thought it sounded funny.

Can you imagine, "uh oh" :)

How much food could have been on the plate anyways?

My sis just wonders how the kid was able to reach the counter. My guess. Her tippy toes!

Gosh, just like my almost disaster with Yogi yesterday ;)

Does anyone remember the 1950s TV series SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE which starred DR DRuxy's client John Russell and Chick Chandler?

I picked up the entire series on DVD due to the fact that it has gotten such glorious reviews on certain interweb sights.

I was not familiar with the show, but after watching just one episode, I have to admit that it is quite good.

John Russell always seemed such a stoney type, but he has a lot of personality in this show. Some fun guest stars show up in future episodes, I have noticed. I think both Sally Fraser and Gloria Talbott are coming up soon, if I recall.

Available on Amazon.com for cheap.

I remember this show very well.  I watched it when I was a kid.

I recall seeing Chick Chandler when he came to Seattle for a p.a. at the Orpheum Theater.

I just heard from the hospital and I'm schedule to be admitted at 8:30. I have to fill out paperwork and then get prepped so I'm assuming it will start around 9 or 9:30 (I may be wildy optimistic here). I don't know how long it takes or how long I'll be under (I see the anesthesiologist after the paperwork). Anthony will contact Larry when things are done and he can report to you all.

It's funny because I did a whole frenzied search for that couplet yesterday. I checked my copy of the libretto/play and it's the whitewashed lyrics. I listened to the original cast and the Sondheim tribute. Couldn't find my copy of the BK-produced version. I was beginning to doubt my memory and/or sanity, when I Googled it and it came up on the following, which tried to sell me a ring tone. Sorry, no cell phone here, but I do appreciate the confirmation.

The first four lines of the 3rd refrain, as well as the 3rd verse, of "We're Gonna Be All Right" on the Sondhein Tribute (Scrabble cover) are different from those printed in FINISHING THE HAT.
