Well, as planned, I spent most of my first day here in Chicago at the
Art Institute of Chicago. I paid my now ritual visit to the Caillebotte and Seurat paintings, and then I spent the next four(!) hours going through the Renzo Piano Modern Wing. When I was here two years ago, the new Modern Wing opened the day after I left, so...
WOW! There's a LOT of Art in that new wing. A LOT. It got to the point where I would turn a corner and just start laughing in disbelief at just how much Art was in there. It kept going and going and going... I didn't even make it to any of the main galleries in the main building. So, I might go back tomorrow or Monday and remedy that.
However, what I did see today was amazing. The new building is beautiful, and it's nice to see how the AIC re-arranged and re-structured their 20th Century collection. There were also a couple of special exhibits that were quite thought-provoking and entertaining. There is also a walkway from the Modern Wing right into Millennium Park - and that was a nice way to "escape" for lunch.
