BK I am sorry I couldn't even finish reading your post about Black Sunday -- I have never seen the point of these bloody violent films -- I do not understand the appeal of the Friday the 13th, Chainsaw massacre, SAW etc type movies -- it turns my stomach

heck I have to turn away when Bill Sykes falls in Oliver
But according to the preview of "Oliver!" Bill Sykes is one of your old friends.

Well would you want to see that happen to one of YOUR old friends?
No. I just thought the preview was absurd.

well of course it was ! It was the 60's!!

But, for now, I'm inside helping my friend, Yosh, move some stuff around his apartment.

I gather you have found a place to stay-yes?

FJL  you have been missed as well -  what is new in your neck of the woods?  Has your legal battle been resolved or does it still drag on?

No resolution to the Unemployment matter.  the employer had put in for an appeals hearing back in (I think) November, but nothing as of now.  Thanks for asking.

Sigh!  Continued vibes!!!

At the end of the evening, the Gin Blossoms performed. And I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the concert, which was followed by a 20-minute fireworks display.

I've been having trouble posting.

I should leave anyway and take Sherlock for a nice long hike.  We did very little walking on this trip which is extremely unusual for us.  As a result we both gained a couple of pounds, also unusual for us when we travel.

Finished THE KING'S SPEECH last night.  What a sweet film.  Amazing to think such emotion could be culled from such a supposedly "dry" subject.  Spent this morning reading about the real Logue.

We had our first sunny day in literally well over a month yesterday, so the boys and I finally planted Daphne (she was not pleased--ba dum bum) and Lilacs in the front yard where the water feature used to be.

I have been on an insane music buying spree over the past few weeks.  As I emailed to BK, I am on a major Enoch Light kick and would love to license all of his Command and Project 3 recordings for CD release.  I'm sure you all would buy multiple copies of them, wouldn't you?

I also on a lark looked up a bunch of old LPs I had to see if they had made it onto CD yet, and lo and behold, they all had.  These were items I had checked on maybe 3 or 4 years ago, but hadn't yet made it to CD.  Everything from Les Brown's Composer's Holiday to Freddie Hubbard's first album for Columbia to a bunch of rarer jazz things were out, so, yes, I bought them all.

I have also been on a cha-cha kick (stop laughing), and am currently enjoying the rhythmic strains of Edmundo Ros doing a number of Hollywood and Broadway tunes you would never think could be converted to cha-chas.  :)  There's also a fantastic Tommy Dorsey Orchestra cha-cha album from 1958 I have been loving.

Back from all my errands. It's a beautiful spring day and everyone is out, include the halt, the lame and the maimed, who are mostly on Sixth Avenue for the street fair, which screwed up traffic throughout Chelsea. Because of the heavy sidewalk traffic, I had to slow my pace behind a person driving one of those motorized wheelchairs, got around him and nearly fell over a blind man swinging his cane in ll directions, got past him to be slowed down by an old coot with a cane tottering in all directions, east, west, north, and south, although he was technically heading west. That was just on 23rd Street. Every sidewalk was similar. Thank God I'm home.

I love my cha-cha version of "O Holy Night." I'm sure Adolphe Adam would have approved.

It's such an early 19th Century sound. NOT.

Richard Traubner, in his operetta book, claimed there was a rhumba in the first or second act finale of Offenbach's Barbe-Bleu, and even though it's false, this rumor has been perpetuated in several other books. The closest the 19th Century Parisians got to cha-cha and rhumba is the piano music of Louis Moreau Gottschalk.

Yes, but would you think that a Jewish composer such as Adam would have appreciated the fact that years after his death he melody was used as a Christmas carol?
