In related news...

Amtrak just started a 3-day sale for travel between DC and NYC if you're traveling between May 10-26, 2011. Fares as low as $29. -I think the catch is that that sale fare is only good for travel from DC to NYC (and not southbound). Of course, Amtrak's online booking system is currently down, so...

But once it's back up: Fares as Low as $19 on the Northeast Regional - Three Days Only

Maybe I can take advantage of that!

At least once the site is back up...

And according to the fine print, the $29 fare is only good for DC to NYC, not from NYC to DC. And, again, it's only good for travel May 10-26. -Which, I guess, isn't really that far way.

It's very workable.

From JMK:
Quote
Re:  Laura Nyro.  I had a very sweet, but kind of sad, occurrence at a piano bar many years ago.  It was the week Laura died, and for some reason without even really thinking about it, I started playing "Captain St. Lucifer," hardly one of her best known songs, but a favorite of mine.  All of a sudden a woman across the room started weeping, and she came up to me and told me she not only recognized the tune, but that she had grown up with Laura and the two had been best friends at a summer camp they went to for several years running.  Amazing--all of this in Portland, Oregon.

I'm sure your playing the song is a memory the woman will always have.  It had to be very special for her.

A favorite MAD magazine song parody title was "Hey, Overlook Me"

LOL!  And then from HOT L BALTIMORE there was "We Shall Come Over".

One of my mom's friends came to the sedar yesterday. He is a really good cook. He made 2 dishes that were excellent (potato latkes and smoked meat). And better yet he left me will all the leftover smoked meat brisket. It was so good. I told him he's my  new best friend.

Can't wait to eat it again!

How nice.  Once again a year without a sedar.  I really must go to L.A. next year where I will have several invites.

Welcome to new DR JOSE CARLOS SIMBULAN JR

Well... According to my mother - at least when I was nine-years old - my name would have been:

DR J. CARLOS SIMBULAN, JR.

*And that was on top of the close to 20 nicknames I had somehow garnered when I was in grade school. -And then when you couple that with the whole "Are you my real cousin? or just the kid of one of my mom's best friends?" conundrum...

::)

Too confusing. ;) ;D

Rob returned yesterday from Michigan, where he attended this production.  Mother Earth will soon be our daughter-in-law!

It wouldn't load.  I'll have to try it later.

With a special affection for the score of On the Twentieth Century especially "Life Is Like A Train" and "Never".

I forgot all about ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY!

Our Private World
She's A Nut

Gosh, the whole darn score...

Wonder why Kevin Kline didn't get a solo number?

DR Jennifer - we submitted our passport applications at our local county clerk's office and the person who accepted them DID look askance at my birth certificate and said it MIGHT not be accepted by the State Department.  I hoped it was just her lack of familiarity with other states, but I guess she was right...

Oh i guess i am used to the big passport offices we have here. The people are trained very well and know exactly what will be accepted.

Oh...

And tonight's "Eat St." on The Cooking Channel features The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck - it was broadcast last week in Canada, DR Jennifer.

Again, I don't think I made the cut for this one, but I know that a bunch of my friends and fellow are in the segment.

Check your local listings for channels and times. -or just watch it on The Cooking Channel's website later in the week.

Spent this rainy afternoon setting up our Easter decorations.  Here's our tree:

My original Easter egg tree was a branch from the 2.5 acres on which my sister and her husband had just built a house.  This is the egg that my sister made to start my collection:

And this is the egg that another special someone made for me about 20 years later:

And, finally, here's a musical egg that the Easter bunny brought me when I was about 5 years old.  It plays "Oh, Dear, What Can the Matter Be?"

It was the TV series, DR FJL.  I wouldn't have been allowed to see the play.
