I have an Arthur Laurents story. A couple of years ago my friend from England and I went to see Jane Fonda in "33 Variations" on Broadway. During the show we heard some groans from the row behind us.
At different points during the show a sign would be held up saying "9th Variation," or "18th Variation." When the sign came up "23rd Variation," we heard the man say "oh, no, 10 more!"
After the show, as we made our way up the aisle I spotted Arthur Laurents and pointed him out to my friend, Glenn. Glenn said "that's the man who was groaning!"
We went to the stage door afterwards and after a while the door opened and who should walk out but Mr. Laurents. He started to make his way down the street. A few seconds later his assistant (?) came out, looking frantically for him. I said "he went that way."
