Very long day again. I hope it's not like this when school starts up again.

Laura, we posted another zucchini recipe this week. Don't know if you saw it, for a Zucchini and Apple Olive Oil Cake:

Well folks I am off to Canada for 10 days.
The first stop will be Toronto. I haven't been there in 8 years and looking forward to seeing old friends I haven't seen in over 15 years. People I went to school with. People I acted with. People I co-wrote a play with and directed him in it.

Then it is off to Montreal and one last night in the family home that we had for over 30 years. The house has been sold and my parents are moving into a new condo in classic Victorian building.

So I am not sure when I will be able to post. I don't know if the B & B has wireless. I am sure the internet will be down when I get to Montreal and the move wll be over the course of two days.

Thanks, John. Alas, the zucchini plants did not survive an Arizona July.

DR Laura, if you took me to a dentist and I woke up with all of my teeth gone, I'd be pissed too1

Me too, Elmore. But his mouth was badly infected. Now it will all heal. Most cats end up being put down for stomatitis. I just have to get Joshie to understand that.

read him this:
Quote
Mild cases of stomatitis may respond to medication with prednisone, cyclosporine, or other drugs that modify the response of the immune system.

For the majority of cases, the most effective treatment is extraction of multiple teeth.  In some cases, all of the teeth in the mouth are removed.  This procedure is called full mouth extraction.

Although the concept of full mouth extraction sounds very unattractive, most stomatitis-afflicted cats benefit tremendously from the procedure.   These cats are unable to use their teeth because of the syndrome, and removing the teeth eliminates the source of pain in their mouth.

During the initial recovery from full mouth extraction, most cats require painkillers and antibiotics such as clindamycin or penicillins.  Once they have healed from the procedure, a large proportion of cats will suffer no inflammation or very low levels of inflammation in their mouths.  For this group of cats, full mouth extraction cures stomatitis.

Many owners notice a marked improvement in their cat's activity and affection levels after successful treatment.  Owners should be aware that appetite may increase dramatically if the syndrome is successfully managed.   Some cats that undergo full mouth extraction gain significant amounts of weight, and may be at risk for obesity.

Michael, have a wonderful time. I hope it's much cooler up there than it is here in droughtland.

Laura, zucchini are one of the few veggies to have survived so far. I didn't plant any this year, but I've got eggplant and plenty of peppers (10 on one plant), only because I have forced myself to water them every night. One missed night or morning and they're all dead.

I'm at the lake, just for tonight and tomorrow.  My mother has this house so hot....well hot to me.  It's over 80 degrees in here and it's humid.  Luckily I'm in a room in the basement with an air conditioner AND a dehumidifier, lol.  It's feeling much better in here.

tomorrow we go to Sweet Corn Days....oh joy!  i do have my camera and should charge the battery tonight ...

Yup, Cillaliz. And we had a specialist do it. He gave me such a detailed report of everything. He went far beyond simply extracting the teeth. He checked all the underlying tissues and whatnot under the gums.

I tore the tomato plants out last week. They survived as long as they usually do -- until mid-July. Then they just can't do it any more. We had a good season.

DR Laura, checking the whatnot is what most of the reports say can make the difference.  Sounds like you may have a very fat and happy Joshie in just no time at all

Think I'll sign off and read for awhile.  I'm reading The Fatal Gift of Beauty...I think that's what it's called, it's the book about Amanda Knox.  I didn't follow it that closely while it was going on, but am very interested in the story and how the evidence came in at trial.   Night
