I just had a visit from Will Parker! Our DR Jose stopped by with his friend Cody Williams for a brief visit, and I got to meet him and tell him how much I loved the video of him and the little girl performing "All Er Nothin'." I finally found Jose's birthday gift in the rubble of my apartment, so I was able to give him that as well. It's been a wonderful evening.

From comedy to a weepie. It's time for the last half fo "Camille," which I started a week or so ago and never finished. Somehow, the theme for the evening is TB, with Cher off to see "La Boheme" and Garbo coughing up a storm. I hope it's not catching.

My two Kritzerland CDs were received here at my work on Friday (the day that I left on vacation).  I just realized that I must not have been one of the first 100 orders for the "Nudie" CD because it's not signed by BK.  Not a problem...just probably the first time that that's happened.

I just finished listening to it and it's wonderful!  It all sounds great!  I love Grant's instrumental versions, especially the tango, "Lesbian, Butch, Dyke."  I may have to learn some of the songs and entertain friends and enemies with them. :D

Well, this is pretty cool...A New Dawn for "Sunrise, Sunset" at Same-Sex Wedding; Sheldon Harnick Revises Lyrics of the Nuptial Standard:

Quote
...."I've been doing same-sex weddings since New York law permitted it in July," said Rev. Joshua Ellis, whose new career as a New York-based Interspiritual minister was preceded by many years as a theatrical press agent in New York City. "And something was missing. Nobody was singing 'Sunrise, Sunset.' It's sung all the time in weddings of mixed couples. I guessed it was because they talk about a little boy and a little girl. So I contacted [lyricist] Sheldon Harnick."

Ellis continued, "Within a few days, he wrote a note back. He'd contacted Richard Ticktin, who was best friend of Jerry Bock and his representative. Attached to that email were revised lyrics of the song." Ellis then gently asked Harnick if he could also write a set of lyrics for a female couple. Those arrived soon after.

....

As seen on revjosh.com, here are the newly revised lyrics:

"SUNRISE, SUNSET"

NEW LYRICS BY SHELDON HARNICK, FOR SAME-SEX WEDDING COUPLES.
ALL NEW LYRICS COPYRIGHT 2011, SHELDON HARNICK.
ORIGINAL MUSIC AND LYRICS COPYRIGHT, 1964 JERRY BOCK AND SHELDON HARNICK

FOR MALE COUPLES:

Is this the little boy I carried?
Is that the little boy at play?
I don't remember growing older.
When did they?

We did they get to be so handsome?
When did they grow to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesterday when they were small?

Sunrise, sunset,
Sunrise, sunset,
Swiftly flow the days.
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers,
Blossoming even as we gaze.

Sunrise, sunset,
Sunrise, sunset,
Swiftly fly the years.
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears.

What words of wisdom can I give them?
How can I help to ease their way?
Now they must learn from one another
Day by day.

They look so natural together.
Just like two newlyweds should be.
Is there a canopy in store for me?

Sunrise, sunset,
Sunrise, sunset,
Swiftly fly the years.
One season following another,
Laden with happiness and tears.

FOR FEMALE COUPLES:

Is this the little girl I carried?
Is that the little girl at play?
I don't remember growing older.
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?
[Alternative: When did she get to be so handsome?]
When did they grow to be this tall?
Wasn't it yesterday when they were small?

Sunrise, sunset,
[Continues as above]

Of course you were one of the first hundred - I'm sure it was pilot error on the part of the helper.  Are you sure there wasn't the extra booklet in the package - that's how the signed thing is sent - a separate booklet.  Let me know - if not, we'll send you one, no worries.

That's right...the signed booklet has always been extra.  But no, there wasn't an extra one in there.  Thanks, BK!

And Elmore, why isn't Encores doing "The Cradle Will Rock"? It's so perfect to go with Occupy Wall Street. I just finished the Patti LuPone cast recording and, man, would I love to see that done outdoors for the protestors with the actors walking out of the crowd the way that they walked out of the audience on that opening night ages ago. Instead of a piano, you could have a portable electronic keyboard.
