Good Evening!

Well, I'm back from my walk if you - as if you couldn't tell...

Boy is it humid outside here in Richmond, VA!  It's actually raining now - thankfully, I had my umbrella with me.  But it was a good walk, and I picked up some vegetable soup and fried crab sticks for dinner from the Chinese take-out place up the street.

I was flipping channels... well, it doesn't look like I've missed much quality programming this past season - at least according the reruns currently on.  However, I did stop at PBS, and they're showing a program called "The Forgetting".  It's about Alzheimer's disease.  A very moving documentary.

DR Jane - Sorry to hear about Echo.  Many good vibes to you, Keith and Echo.

There is another solution to the cockroaches, and it doesn't involve pesticides, poisons, or bug traps.

Go to a pet store, get a yourself praying mantis, and release it in your domicile.  Yeah, it's a big bug, but they're less unsightly than the cockroaches upon which they feed.

I've got a buddy down in Washington DC that swears this works wonders.  And when I lived there, I tried it for a while, and it seemed to work just fine.  Of course, you have to replace the mantis every year or so...

A QUESTION FOR ASK BK DAY:

If you were to join an on-line dating service (not that anyone here would ever need to) and write a discription of yourself to attract that special someone (as if those attributes aren't self-evident, which they are), what would you include in your discription?

No "Well, I would never do such a thing" replies, please!  We already know that none of us would ever need to!  But, for the sake of being silly, just pretend, and give us your best on-line come-on.

 :D

Alright, this is what i have on one dating service:

Call me. Don't be afraid you can call me.  Call me and I'll be around.
Professional writer.  Professional food service.  Semi-professional theater guy.  Semi-professional singer.

On another site:

i'll serenade you, if you'll serenade me. . .

Looking For: Men for friendship, erotic chat/email/e-sex, a "discreet" relationship, 1-on-1 sex, travel partner or a serious relationship

Ideal Person: warm and tender. someone whom everyone is happy to be around. someone whose glow i can bask in.

I got my Emmy ballots the other day. Made me realize I haven't watched much TV since moving back to LA. There are hundreds of programs listed in the writing and general program categories. So do I just consider the few I've seen or do I not vote at all? It's an ethical problem. "The Forgetting" is one of the docus I could vote for, for example. But I haven't seen it. (Of course, that's why I was sent all those tapes and DVDs. But even if I watched a select few, that's still not fair to the ones I haven't seen.)

I don’t care for the packaged Halvah, preferring a fresh slice at the deli.  Nowadays it is difficult to find it without nuts.  Oh, I just like the marbled style.

Jennifer, I wasn’t sure if you were teasing with that question.  As far as I know it is sold in every Jewish deli.  Is that different in Canada?

Thank you Panni & Jose.

Robin we will take all the good vibes we can get.  We are hoping she doesn’t get any worse while we are away.  And then there is Bogie who mustn’t get a urinary infection while we are gone.  Thank goodness our pet sitter is a vet tech!

I’m enjoying all “for real”  on-line dating service blurbs.

Panni, can you just do a bit of research and then watch a few you feel shouldn’t be missed and then vote.  You do have a dilemma,  I would probably vote for something I thought was great, but don’t know about the others.

Spoo!  I forgot to add that the photo accompaning my online blurbs is very sedate. . .moi lounging, looking like "The Man in the Moon," but not a lady. . .

Thank you Minx and td.

At the moment I’m a bit drained emotionally so I’m going to vent, then get over it.  For the last year I have had the good fortune to take a few nice vacations, except every trip was surrounded by stress, people or pet illness and deaths. We would have cancelled every single trip is they hadn’t been pre-paid and booked with friends.  This trip was supposed to be special, the most important of all and no one was to be sick!!!

Okay, vent over.  Thank you for letting me get that out of my system.  Sometimes I need to pout and vent before I move on.  Now I’m going to pack and think of the good time I will have with my sons.

As for ONLINE DATING - Yes, I too have done the online dating thing. It's funny that the question was stated with "of course none of us would"...and so many of us have. I sit alone and write most of the time, and meeting new, interesting people through the "normal" channels is not easy. In fact it's almost impossible. So when I ended my last relationship after 5 years, I decided to try this way of connecting. It worked out fine, I think.
I don't remember what I said. I have it stored somewhere. If I come across it, I'll reprint some here. If I were composing it now, I'd say maybe..."Intelligent, attractive, accomplished woman in the arts, lots of love in her heart, looking for partner in life. Not a matter of need,  but of choice. Laughter is funnier, sadness more bearable, accolades more meaningful, chocolate yummier, when it's two instead of one. I'd rather be alone than with the wrong person. But I'd like to find the right person."... Something like that.

Oh DR Jane, I'm so sorry about Echo.  Good pet vibes ~~~~~~~~~

I hope you will still be able to have a wonderful trip.  And at least know that you are leaving your pets in good hands.  It's okay to be stressed.  But you need to be able to spend time with your children too.  I'm sure everything will turn out fine.

And re: the halvah, no I wasn't kidding.  I don't know, maybe we call it something else here.  But I'm not familiar with the name.

I'm just beginning to plan my first vacation in three years. . .
August 6, 7 and 8th, I will be in New York City.
So far, I'm seeing WICKED (Front Mezz, Row D) on my birthday, then Saturday night seeing Mr. Jackman in his little extravaganza.
I do hope that certain DRs will be out and about that weekend for dinner at Joe Allen's. . .drinks at McQuarry's. . .The Fringe Festival . . .and whatnot. . .
I don't want to have to vent about my vacation.

Vent away, Jane. Life has a way of throwing these nasty curves. There's not much we can do, but carry on. As you seem to be doing beautifully.

Up until very recently I was getting Halvah mixed up with Baclava in my addled brain. I find baclava too sweet and it makes my teeth hurt. So whenever I was asked about halvah, I'd say no thanks, for those reasons. Then a few months ago I actually saw a piece and tasted it and realized I LIKED it. A second cousin of marzipan. Yummy.

Jennifer, do you pronounce it hal-av-a or hal-e-va?

Dan-in-Tornonto , LOL and again LOL

Jennifer and all, it is funny.  When I first met the dog, when he still liked Echo, I said, “cute name but I wouldn’t want to name a dog after that guy”.  Little did I know…

Panni, I didn’t receive the email. ???
