I think deer are so amazing to watch, I guess they could mess up whatever they wanted in my yard and I wouldn't mind. Such gorgeous creatures.

Of course my friend Mark in Wyoming doesn't feel the same way. He says they eat everything he plants in his yard and it drives him crazy. I just tell him he shouldn't have moved into the animal's territory.  ;D

By the way, I very highly recommend FRESHWATER ROAD!

Here is Denise with her handsome co-star, and one of my favorite actors, Lloyd Haynes.

I added it to my "to read" list.  My library has it on Kindle but not on EPub which I use.

Nice photo.

and for those curious, here is a poster and trailer for YOUNG AND WILD!

You can watch the movie on Netflix Streaming! it stars my dear, late friend Carolyn Kearney. What a sweetheart she was.

The narrator of the trailer is wonderful! Some great lines!

That was fun and I like the poster.

We can't watch Streaming at our house.

DR Elmore -- how are the orchestras and conducting on those G&S?

(Don't know either of those but plan to get to all of them eventually.)

From Cilla:

I went to the City council meeting to complain about the stupid don't feed the deer or turkeys but ok to feed the squirrels and birds ordinance.   They showed part of my comments on TV.  I have had more people tell me that they saw that clip and they are against the ordinance than anything I've ever done.  It's hilarious.  People walk up on the street to say "I saw you on tv.  I agree about the deer"  LOL

 ;D

Here there is a reason people shouldn't feed the wildlife, Bears & Coyote's.  Not feeding the deer has not reduced their population.  To keep deer away all landscaping would have to be removed.

We don't have bears but do have coyotes...of course you can feed them

;D

I forgot to mention the cougar's.

I beg your pardon? Oh, you mean the big cats.

You bet I do.

I sat down to watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.  The main titles began and I closed my eyes for just a minute and when I opened them it was thirty minutes later.  So, I went back and began again.

Been laying back, watching new Blu-rays all afternoon/evening.  Well, spot-checking and skipping around, and watching some whole scenes.

THIS IS CINERAMA, WINDJAMMER, the James Bond set...

I'm really hankering to watch the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD remake (I've never seen it), but feel I should review the original first.

I have done that more times than I care to remember.  Sometimes it's necessary, just to get to the point at which I'm totally wide awake and ready for a complete movie.

Nothing new here, I've done it in theaters a few times over the years, too.

By the way, I very highly recommend FRESHWATER ROAD! It is about a sheltered black girl from Detroit in the 1960s who decides to travel to Mississippi to help with registering black voters. Unfortunately, she finds out this is fraught with danger.

The author is Denise Nicholas, who many of you will remember from starring in the 1970s tv series ROOM 222. I suspect some of this book is based on her work with the civil rights movement. There is a lot in this book that is reminding me of the voter suppression that has been going on lately.

I remember thinking that if Karen Valentine was too silly to know she should get off that bus in the opening credits every week, I didn't want her teaching students-I didn't get that kind of no-laugh-track-comedy at first.  :)  They actually had a laugh track for a brief while, IIRC.

I loved Room 222.

I would never, ever want to keep the deer away!

I love them, but had to stop feeding them when they started damaging property.  They actually bent an iron shepard's hook that had a bird feeder hanging on it.  The feeder was broken into several pieces.

LOL Soooo, you agree it is best not to fee them, just not to make it illegal to do so ;)

Yeah.  I really think there's no way you can pass an ordinance that says You can't feed deer and turkeys but you can feed anything else.  Seriously, how stupid and unenforcable can you get!  the truth is they have to pass this to get the help of the Iowa DNR who will charge them something like $100,000 to count the deer.  That's even dumber.  AND if the goal is to get them to leave the flowers and gardens alone, isnt' that exactly what they are going to eat if no one feeds them?

Karen Valentine is from Santa Rosa.  When I worked at the mall in Santa Rosa, Karen's sister worked at the Emporium.  Side by side, they didn't look that much alike, but there mannerisms were so similar, there was no doubt who was her sister.

Count me among the Room 222 fans. Loved Denise Nichols enough that I'll have to check out her book.

Back from a nice birthday dinner. My biz partner's husband's birthday is today, so we generally celebrate both his and mine together. Great meal. I had an amazing beet salad with cheese, duck breast with foie gras, and a slice of lemon tart with fresh berries. Brought along a special Bordeaux that I'd been saving for the past decade. It seemed the right time to open it.

Good Evening!

Dinner at The Bristol was amazing!

We just ended up ordering a slew of "small plates" to share, and then ended up with a little too much food on the table since some of the "small" plates ended up not being that small at all.

Broccoli Tempura - What a stunner of an appetizer! Great taste, perfect combination of textures. The crunch!
Monkey Bread - They do a savory version with Parker Roll house dough that's served with Dill Butter.
Duck Fat Fries - Truly my favorite version of a new sort of "standard" side dish. And their aioli and homemade ketchup were the perfect accompaniments.
Mexican Style Corn - It was prepared "elote" style. Grilled, then drizzled with butter, cotija cheese, parsley and cilantro.
A great cheese plate.
Three amazing pastas: Ricotta Gnocchi with Crisp Bacon, Zucchini and Mint; Fresh Chitarra with Shrimp, Red Pepper Flakes, Egg Yolk Raviolo with Brown Butter.

...In fact, we didn't have room for dessert!*

As for Sunday in the Park with George at Chicago Shakespeare Theater....

I lost track of how many times I started to cry. And once I did start crying, well...

It's a very good production, and a very earthy and beautiful one. It was only their third preview, and there were a couple of coordination problems between the stage and the pit, but the Heart of the show is already there. The two leads really managed to put their own unique spin on the characters - which is aided by some of the very smart choices by their director, Gary Griffin. And I guess because I truly get the number now, but Linda Stephens singing "Beautiful" just destroyed me.

*However...

Due to discovering that tonight's curtain was at 7:30pm instead of 8:00pm - it's the only Saturday night during the run where it was not at 8:00pm - and the usually heavy Saturday night traffic through Bucktown and getting to Navy Pier, we ended up missing part of the Opening. Thankfully, something/someone made me check the curtain time when we sat down to eat, and our waitress made sure we got out of there in plenty of time - or so we thought. In any case...

Somehow not hearing that opening section - those words - kind of made hearing them anew at the end of the show that much more powerful. -At least to me. I had to stifle a semi-sob during the final pause of the music in the finale so as not to disturb my fellow audience members. And I also got to see my friends Brad and Linda after the show.

All in all a very wonderful evening.

Tomorrow night, I may be seeing the final dress run/rehearsal of Kinky Boots. I have some friends in the cast, and there's an extra ticket floating around.
