Hello!  I'm home.  After hearing the whole story, I am actually quite impressed with the way Boo was defending Callie from what she perceived as a danger.   Boo attacked the cat sitter last night. Then the sitter took off her glasses to check her scratches...Boo knoced her glasses behind a chest of drawers.  Today when the sitter arrived and put Ricky and Boo in the kitchen, shut the doors and went upstairs to get Callie, Callie started hissing and Boo managed to get out and run up stairs and started hissing again.  Seriously, impressive although I'm not pleased about it.

I found a small beef roast in my freezer.  I have some rice to make with it, some sweet potatoes and fixins for them and will find a couple other things.  It's not the Christmas dinner I had planned but it will be good.

On the positive side.  We really did our family Christmas last weekend.  Mom and dad and I exchanged gifts last night, I played my flute and sang with the choir (both mom and dad are in the choir) at the late service at church and we had fun putting a jigsaw puzzle together yesterday afternoon.   I also saw my brother and his wife.  So, it was still a very nice Christmas even if it was cut short.

And, it feels pretty good just to sit in my chair with my feet up.   It's REALLY cold outside.  Like single digits.  Being home isn't such a bad place to be

George! Go to Bed. It's 5am there and Santa won't come until you're under the covers asleep.

I did...not long enough, though. ::)

Hey!  Maybe I'll go see Les Miz.  I heard a rumor it was opening today

What is Les Miz?  Never heard of it.

Some book or something....or maybe it's a tv show, I'm not sure, I haven't heard anything about it either.

I think it's a musical...lots of singing, I suspect.

Today, the family is going to my sister's house for food and festivities.  I'll have to leave at about 6:00 pm to meet some friends to see "Les Misérables" on the big screen.

Jeanne, Baptist cakes are like donuts but cut in rectangular strips. When you fry them, you fully immerse them in the fat, hence the name. When they're done, you cut a slit in them, fill with butter and top with warm maple syrup.

Thanks for the explanation. Are they a Southern item?

Well it's always nice to come home.  ;)

I had a wonderful early Christmas dinner.  My turkey turned out perfect!  I'm looking forward to having a turkey sandwich or two for work.

I took the dogs for a walk.  Toby cries like a baby when we pass by any yard with a dog in it.  It's most embarrassing.

Merry Christmas to all HHWers, and Steven Findle, too!

Oh, is that Stephen Findle? I wondered what he looked like!

So, we saw the first showing of LES MISERABLES this morning, and despite some reservations, we enjoyed it.

I think the critics have been overly harsh on it.

Russell Crowe may not have had the singing voice for Javert, but he certainly had the presence.

However, for us, the biggest problem was a carry over from the stage version (i.e. the book).

The story lacks focus...as does the story in LINCOLN.    ::)

The core story of LES MISERABLES is the chase, but that story virtually disappears for most of the film (and play's) second half in favor of the revolution and the love story.  Yes, some of the show's most memorable songs may center around these events, but that is a separate issue and has nothing to do with good storytelling.

Truly, almost everything that occurs [SPOILER AHEAD] after Javert's death is anti-climatic.

On the other hand, my wife and I both teared up at the end.

BK,

I know you don't like him...and I'm not a fan...but we thought that Sacha Baron Cohen was a perfect choice for his role, and we were also quite impressed with Samantha Barks

I'm interested to hear all of the feedback on what's-its-name that opened today (or was it yesterday?).

It was wonderfully quiet here last night. I slept until 9 this morning, which is quite unusual. It's cool and cloudy today in my 'hood, with rain expected tomorrow.
